Asian male with a low critical reading score

Hey guys.
I'm a senior asian male who will be applying to some of the top schools (including few ivies) this fall.
All of my scores (AP and SAT subjects) are IVY level scores with 4/5 on APs and 750+ on all of my subject tests.
But the problem is my reasoning. My total score is good = 2230.
But my Critical reading is 630. (Math&Writing are 800)
I won't be applying to any english related major. (engineering, to be specific.)
And people said regardless of ur major, scores like low 600s in critical reading will hurt your chance especially for the ivies...
Do you think i will be fine? (Btw, i lived in the U.S. for 5 years... so it was hard for me to raise my CR score...)

anyone help please.
I would like to to if my score is really okay for the top ivies if my other 2 scores and everything elses are gud…

Im in a similar situation. My reading scores is only 650 while my Math is 750 and my writing is 800.

OP, go for the ACT. My S had the same issue. He found the ACT English was easier, and the math section was harder than the SAT and with the science section too, it played into his strength. He had a 35/36 in the ACT which translated to about 2340-2350 on the SAT, while his actual SAT score didn’t break 2100 even with an 800 in math.

ACT’s reading is sooooooo much easier
but the English section (which is equivalent to SAT writing sec) is kinda different from SAT writing and requires some preparation
Otherwise, if you are strong at math and science, I’d say ACT

but i’m a senior. so it’s too late. Is my reading score good enough for the ivies though? If my other scores are all good?

Probably not. If you’re an Intel winner or have national achievements in math/science, some schools might overlook it. But even 750 is average for most ivies and when you liik at MIT and Caltech, they’re CR scores are way up there.

How late can a senior take an ACT and have it be considered by Ivies?

^Dec for ACT Jan for SAT @ most

Your scores will not hurt your chances in most ivys. They are good enough.

Take the ACT; if they have a huge backlog of applications and take time to get to yours, the late ACT perhaps will make it in. I don’t know if they have a policy to exclude any results after the cutoff date, but if they don’t you may benefit.

Sorry for the pessimism but no, they are probably not high enough. For the SAT it’s all about score per section, not aggregate score. 630 CR is, I think, below the 25th percentile for all Ivy League schools and “top” universities. Many adcoms generally consider it the most important section too.

If you can, try the ACT standby next weekend. It may seem scary, making a last-effort run like that, but not only is the reading section considered easier than the SAT’s reading section; it is also looked at from an aggregate point of view, so the focus will be on the composite score and not the score-per-section, giving you less of a problem if you were to not perform very well on the ACT reading.

If xAAAx is correct, you could also re-take the SAT in January. This would require significant preparation I think. Obviously, you should focus only on studying for reading since your other two scores are strong. Schools will look at a superscore so even if your math and writing sections are not astronomically high, you can still show for it. That’s not to say you should tank either section on the Jan. SAT; that will look bad.

It’s probably not what you want to hear, but if you want a significant chance at Ivy League schools you ought to improve your reading score. And you still have time.

is 650 any better?
