they just want what is best for you
I think if you read rich dad, poor dad you'll understand why it is soo
and be pround of who you are and your heritage

k guys, if you think that is bad..well, here's the conversation with my dad I had a few hours ago:
(I'm not Asian by the way)

Well, I don't feel like making it dialoge cuz it'll be too long, but he wants me to do an AP BIOLOGY course in ONE AND A HALF MONTHS before going to a 3 week intensive ADVANCED CHEMISTRY course and then come back and order the biology extension if I don't finish it and finish the course by the time school starts. I'm taking AP Bio next year.

Then he wanted me to do all of these science courses over the year so when I graduate high school, I can save him a lot of money by taking the MCAT AFTER HIGH SCHOOL, instead of going to Pre-med for 2 years. That way, according to him, a couple thousand spent on courses would save a lot of money compared to several tens of thousands spent on an "unnecessary" 2 years in college.

Oh my gosh.
He thinks I can become this instant achievatron.

MCAT AFTER HIGH SCHOOL AND THEN DIRECT MED SCHOOL?! WHAT THE HELL IS HE SMOKING?
[/quote]

He obviously lacks even a basic understanding of what the MCAT entails. No offense to your father, but he is not really aware of the true nature of the exam...

Honey he is a doctor.
I actually do see where he is coming from, because I know his family history. I could tell you but it'd take too long.
I looked at the pre-med classes you take before the MCAT, and it's feasible, but I don't think I could handle that amount of work.
There are several 12 year olds in college, and some of those are even in med school now. Anyone can take the MCAT, just like anyone can take the SAT. You get a high score, and bam, you're in med school, they don't care how old you are.

yes that's how it works... actually my calc teacher took it without any background and scored well enough to get into all but the top 10 med schools... by "eliminating answers"

That's great that he's a physician. When did he last take the MCAT?

This is like someone who took the SAT pre-1995 commenting on the current test; they're different enough to be considered different tests with the same name.

Yeah, there are 12-year-olds in college. Whoopie. Are you a child prodigy? Better yet, do you want to be one? Yeah, there are a small number of children in college and younger folk in med school, but the vast majority are 23-27 year old ADULTS with clear career goals. Why rush through the best time of your life just to go work in the salt mines?

sarorah, uclari - to jump into ur conversation...i m from india...and the only way students can go into medicine is right after high school...no pre-med etc....u take very competitive exams...if u pass it (passing rate of 1-3%)...u join med school...if u dont...there goes ur dream of becoming a physician...
the purpose of saying that is...every1 else in the world does it..(and does alrigt...afterall over of the 1.6mm indians in the US, about 100k are physicians from india) i dont think its fun...i wont do it...but ppl do it...

Yeah, I'm not gonna do this. Way too much unnecessary cramming. I don't know when he last took it, but things aren't that much different today. My dad..has some strange ideas sometimes.

Actually, for the record, the MCAT, prior to 1991, did not have the writing sample. It has changed a lot.

Besides, who wants to miss out on two years of college? Bah. You'll be the only one sober throughout med school!
