Asian Perspectives 2010

It's April 16th-18th. Does anyone plan on going?
Is it basically an orientation for only Asians? o_o

Programs like this only serve to further racial divides. Don’t go.

It’s a cool program - allows families to meet other like themselves and shares experiences at Hopkins. Hopkins is very Asian friendly and this type of program confirms that.

If you think you would like that perspective on Hopkins, definitely go.

So it allows the self-segregation process to start even before orientation? Fantastic.

Why do you need the same color skin to be like one another, Wealthy? Aren’t we all Americans here?

I think it’s more for the parents than for the students actually. Familiar faces, languages and cultural connections are a great place to start for families leaving their sons and daughters at Hopkins, especially for those coming from far away.

I think it’s just a jumping off point. Once the students get to Hopkins, they do what they like. : )

I don’t think it’s divisive at all. I might be a little biased because I am in one of the student orgs that participates in Asian Perspectives, but it’s a great experience and really shows off that Hopkins is a diverse place – there are many cultures at Hopkins, and if you want to participate or promote your own, or even experience another culture, I don’t see anything wrong with that. I think it also shows that Asians do make up a large part of the student body here at Hopkins (~20% I believe) and that there is a place for involvement on campus outside the library.

I would also encourage coming for admitted student week, just to get a more complete feel, but it is a unique view of life at Hopkins and I encourage anybody interested to give it a shot!
