lol Arti...exactly what I was thinking.

I think asian-americans are beocming less pressured...because I am half-asian american and my friend is asian (yea we are atcually the noly 2 asian kids in our grade...yes i go to a predominately white school, like 95% white) but...i thinkkkkk asian-americans are beocming less pressured because even though i know both our parents want us to become doctors, etc....it isn't like we LISTEN TO THEM...

and my cousins aren't as pressured, i mean they go to SUNY schools not IVY league....so though my experience I have notcied pressure from asian parents, but it doesn't mean that the asian kids are all going for IVY league...

however....i am going to try for ivy league...but i am also half-asian...lol

maybe "Different," I say...

I know...I was being sarcastic.

"Me-Junior, 17 years old, 3.57/2100, passed driver's license test on the first try, despises SCIENCE, insects, and reptiles with a passion, worst subject is science, best is history, politically liberal, had a couple C's, first choice school=UMich-Ann Arbor, intended major=finance/econ, career choice=stock/currency/mortgage trader."

A comparison: 17 year old senior, 3.7/2040, passed driver's license on the first try, despises science and insects, worst subject is science, best in social sciences, politically liberal leaning, now have more B's than A's, first choice school = Northwestern when I applied (UCLA now), intended major = Econ, career choice = management

What's your point? They're just stereotypes. And if you're a failure, so am I. You're making too big of a deal of going OOS. I always wanted to go OOS, far far away, away from "Asian" schools when I applied. But I've changed my mind in the months after I applied. I even got into my 2nd choice Michigan, but look where I'm going? UCLA. I'm choosing a 5th choice over my 2nd choice, I must add. :)

That's the point...I break every stereotype imaginable about Asians...of course Asian parents can't accept that their child is DIFFERENT from the stereotype, and perceive it as a failure...

And I'm looking forward to going out of state...I hate being in CA.

stop bittching that you're not perfect, i know it's hard since many of your asian friends got perfect sat or 4.0+ gpa but that's way above average. you'll feel much better if you start comparing your stats with white kids.

omgosh... UMich, Northwestern, and UCLA r amazing schools... r u saying there not????

ihateCA,

I can't wait for you to leave CA and then see the "greener pastures" for yourself.

Oh, I meant "not nearly as green pastures." Same difference. ;) :P

"omgosh... UMich, Northwestern, and UCLA r amazing schools... r u saying there not????"

That's not what I said. All 3 are great schools. Just wanted to say that having OOS colleges as top choices for the sake of getting away from parents may not necessarily be the best choice.

What is the Asian view on Wake Forest? Where would it rank on the prestige scale?

They are amazing schools...but in the Asian prestige scale, they're near the bottom since they're not HYPSM.

you will be seen as a complete failure in every single asian's eyes if you do not get into harvard/stanford. wake forest just isn't cutting it bud...

but, seriously, who cares? the people i know at wake forest love it there and are getting a great education.

You guys are all FOBS.

what does FOBS stand for?

edit: does it mean Full Of BS?

FOB = fresh off the boat

X.F.D. @ Full Of BS

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
that made me truly laugh out loud, thanks for that.

I have to admit, I have the same mindset...I really want to go to Stanford but got rejected, and I got waitlisted at Princeton and Columbia. I got into Georgetown, but...well, its kinda preppy, and its Catholic, and well........:/ I really want to either go to an Ivy or to Stanford, myself....

It's ok Im Asian as well. And Im going to Penn State next year is that considered "bad"?. If you think it is then who cares. People who are ignorant enough to value the name over the quality need to be start being real. Where is everybody else going?

But then again that name could get you further... Its only an advantage. I have mixed views on the topic.

first of all, FOB = fresh off board

and second of all, the prestige of the college does not necessarily determine economic wealth later on... I no many adults who went to Ivies and are not extremely wealthy. Besides, many CEOs and millionaires/billionaires went to these obscure undergrad schools that no one's every heard about... what matters for success in ur career is ur EQ (emotional intelligence), people skills, and sometimes just luck... so i don't get y people equate ultimate success with getting into an Ivy

Falrapax - I'm going to Georgetown! ur right, it is sort of preppy but I was there for the GAAP weekend last fri/sat and it looked like there are lots of diff people there... and as for being Catholic, there is also a large jewish, asian, etc presence on campus... i'm from nj too and i heard that many many people there r from nj

Lol, that guy has a major snob stick up his ass. Sorry to burst his bubble, but it ain't worth much if you go to an Ivy for undergrad and do crappy there.

And that only proves how ignorant and close-minded he is. USC? Claremont McKenna? Pepperdine? Those are some big common names!

Please don't judge all Asians from this example.
