Do asian applicants have an slight advantage or a disadvantage in getting admitted? Or neither?

Asians are considered a URM at Williams. It'll help you, though probably not as much as being African-American or Latino.

Is Williams still uncomfortably preppy and WASPish? I've heard that it's trying to admit more minorities, but I was wondering if a minority would feel out-of-place and alienated.

It depends on what kind of environment you're used to. I myself am a rising Asian sophomore at Williams and have so far found little problem fitting in. However, I grew up in a predominantly white suburb, though I still had my fair share of Asian friends (my two best friends were both Indian). I also happen to be a member of an acapella group here on campus, so interpret that however you will as to how it relates to how "preppy" I am (for the record, I have a burning desire to punch anyone who pops their collars in the face). You'll sometimes see URM's hanging out in cliques that are based mostly on ethnicity, but I'd say that's more the exception than the rule. It's really all up to you. "Racial tension" isn't really an issue, despite Williams' WASPy reputation and a recent controversy or two regarding a faculty member and some stupid, drunk kids.

WASPish? The thing is, those schools cannot be bunched together interms of atmosphere and community, I don't consider Pomona or Amherst preppy in the sense that most consider preppy, and Swarthmore is a much more intense experience than the other three.
