This concept of always being on the lookout for opportunities to support, encourage, network, and learn from others is how we have built our business. The book was recommended to me by a business school grad, who said that it was the most readable and the most profound book he read in business school, and he wished that he had read it much earlier. I have given it to friends your age, who tend to pass it on and rave about it. That said, I don’t think that you will see the recruitment numbers of a school like Wharton, but you are in a fantastic city famous for an amazing climate of creativity and entrepreneurship - take advantage!!!

One of the things that attracted me to BU was definitely its energetic atmosphere and creative people. Entrepreneurship is something that I hope I can pursue in the future, but for majoring in finance/economics, recruitment/internship is a major part of future employment. How does BU stand in that aspect, really? I’m not asking about the frequency that Goldman Sachs/JP Morgan/other famous banks come to recruit BU’s students, but just companies in general.

Also, which business major is currently most popular? I’m not exactly sure how to word that question, but I’m not very familiar with the different career-oriented majors (accounting, finance, etc.).

Hermion, I would try sending a PM to shiningstar12. She has been pretty active in this forum before, and I know she is a communication major. If you search for “communication” under the BU thread, you might get some other ideas. Also sent you a PM.

Hi, I’m pretty set for attending BU and I have a few questions.

Is the FitRec accessible to all BU students? And also, what is the best meal plan/housing combination? The website had link after link after link… tl;dr :D

Fit Rec is accessible to all thought getting involved in intramurals is a pain if you can’t make your own team. The meal plan depends on what you want I have unlimited but I’ll probably switch to 14+… it depends a lot on if you eat breakfast.

I’m almost decided on BU (over USC) and I’m really excited, but there are a couple questions that I still have:

I’ve heard that the campus police are really strict, that guest policies are tight, and amnesty is almost nonexistent. I’ve also heard that there’s some epic grade deflation and that the campus culture/spirit isn’t as strong because most of the activities lie in the city (as opposed to say, Duke or USC, where basketball and football are such a strong unifying force that the whole campus has a much more spirited feel).

Campus Police/Amnesty: BUPD is pretty strict, but as long as you’re not smoking weed in your dorm, running around naked, or lying on the ground wasted, you’ll be fine. They are pretty much just like any campus police, although they can be more vigilant because we are in a city. As far as amnesty goes, I haven’t heard of anyone who reported something going on getting in trouble as well, but I haven’t had any experience with that. Just don’t be too much of an idiot and you’ll be fine.

Guest policies: When you’re signing a guest into a BU residence hall, you have to fill out a form and they leave their ID down at the security desk. The only time that this is annoying is if it’s after 2 am (they can’t be signed in past that time). If your guest is staying for longer than one night, you have to fill out a 3-day pass for them & your roommates have to sign it. In the smaller dorms, like brownstones, this applies, but no one really follows it because there are no security guards.

Grade Deflation: I’ve heard varying opinions about this, but I’ve never experienced it.

School Spirit: I think for a city school, BU has a ton of school spirit. Our campus, although non-tradiitonal, is clearly BU, and people get really into school sports like hockey. However, if you were looking for a culture that everyone tailgates before football games, etc, BU is not for you. There’s a lot of school spirit here, but it’s not like that.

Let me know if you have any more questions–I haven’t really had any big grievances with BU and I’m a junior (and also studying abroad right now in Australia).

No problem! Boston is an amazing place, and I can’t wait to go back for senior year!

Internships for COM students are usually pretty good-we have a Career Services Center & Website that not only hosts seminars about how to perfect your resume, network, etc, but also posts jobs. COM also has a specific Career Service Center that reviews your resume as well. Professors in your specific department also send out emails with employment seminars and potential internships. COM has a great reputation in the working world.

The school will be helpful in giving advice (especially the professors-one of mine sent me specific people to contact at possible internships!), but they’re not going to hold your hand. That being said, I’ve had 3 internships so far, one of which I obtained from the Career Services Website, the other on my study abroad program right now (at a top ad agency in Sydney), and another of my own research.

Boston University continues to have a great reputation abroad, as well. People are pretty impressed over here.

I don’t know about the employment rate, sorry!
