I was assigned to be in a quad room in the Brody (Armstrong), and I wrote an e-mail to ask if the rates for double room and quad room is different, the school told me it’s the same. But how can it be the same when it’s obviously different! Plus, they don’t have any informations about quad room on the website and even when we’re choosing our preference, it only shows up “double+some meal” or “single+some meal” but nothing about “quad+meal”. They don’t have a floor plan ([Brody - West Circle - Red Cedar Floor Plan | Campus Living Services](http://liveon.msu.edu/reshall/floor)) for quad room either! Quad room’s information only shows up in the buiding floor plan. I would like to know what quad room is like and how can I file a complaint that they have the same rates for double and quad room? I don’t think it’s right to have students who live in quad room to pay for the double room price. And it’s four people in the room, not two people in a quad room. Again, how can they not say anything about quad room in the preference page and anything about the rates!

Quad rooms aren’t what you think. You will get just as much space in a quad as you would in a double. Do not fret. I don’t know exactly how the floor plan works out in brody, but trust me, you will be fine. No one that I’ve heard of living in brody complains about the room space (in fact, brody has way bigger rooms than most spaces!). There is no reason to complain until you actually get there.

How are welcome week activities? I’m starting in the spring and I’ve looked online and it mostly lists bingo/bowling/billiards. What usually goes on during welcome week? (Anyone with some comments really, not just to thread starter :P)

Well, there’s U-Fest at the Union tomorrow (Monday), and Sparticipation at Munn Field the day after. There’s also Meijer Madness, and…well, there’s a lot of stuff you can find by just walking around, really. But you really ought to at least go to Sparticipation.

Oh, I don’t know if anyone is interested in orchestras/bands, but auditions are early! Even for the lowest ones, you have to audition to determine seating and things like that.

the welcome activities for fall are pretty fun. Sparticipation (clubs/organizations get together, food, free stuff), U-fest (more free stuff), meijer moonlight madness (shopping/free stuff), etc. But you won’t get those in the spring. But the residence hall association/UAB (university activities board) always hold various events throughout the year i.e. concerts, weekends have campus center cinemas, free bowling/billiards on Tuesdays at the union, and a ton of student org events all the time.

How do I receive mail? I tried searching the MSU site, but it only said how to address mail to a certain person, but not where to pick it up. Is it delivered directly to your room or are there post offices? Can you get packages (textbooks and other stuff) or just mail?

I was wondering about mailboxes, too. My understanding is that you open up a little PO box type thing and they put a slip in there to pickup a bigger package elsewhere. (Like a gift from a friend or home) @Octagons- I know that you can get packages, because my parents have sent them to my other sibling

There are mailboxes in the dorms close to the front desks. Everyone gets a mail box. You get notified by the front desk by email if you receive a package too large to go in the mailbox. The people at the front desks keep the package safe until you show ID when picking it up.

I am not sure how you send mail out from the dorms though.

There is a USPS office on campus in the student union to mail out packages. If it’s just a letter, there is a slot typically by the receptionist desk of each hall (or just ask them) that you slide it into and they will mail it out for you (with stamps on it of course).

Are clubs really that popular? Are there some that are always have events going on and stuff? I think I’ll be better off just socializing with the people in my hall and getting to know everyone

It depends on the club. some are super involved…i.e. Spartan Ski Club, Fencing club, etc. where they hold parties, social events all the time. The academic based clubs are not quite the same. Every club has their own type of atmosphere, you will just have to check them out to see if they are for you! My friends for the most part were not paid through student clubs/groups (although I do have some friends through the student orgs I am in), but there are many other students that base their entire social lives off clubs that they are passionate about (particularly the sports clubs more than others).

Thanks for the answer! Just have one more: Can you use student e-mail accounts for anything besides teacher notices/questions? I haven’t really had any e-mails in there since I activated it. Most of the housing/meal plan messages have gone to my main e-mail I’ve been using. Thanks again!

What do you mean? You can use your msu.edu address for any types of email (legal ones of course). I had all of my msu.edu emails forwarded to my gmail account so I don’t have to check both. Angel.msu.edu mail is different - those are for teacher/classmate notices only. But you can also get those forwarded to a single email account.

Hi,

I consider applying Michigan this year, but… I have doubts regarding financial aid, cause I am an international student. So, is there any possibility that I’ll be awarded a grant? And how, ummm, high it would be? More or less.

Are you looking for University of Michigan? This is Michigan State University. There’s a difference between Michigan and Michigan State :)

Yeah, I know And I mean Michigan SU.

I am a high school senior with a 3.3 gpa with a 1100 on my SATs for reading and math. I take a a pretty good amount of extra curricular activities too. What are my chances to get into the business school at MSU? If I can’t get directly admitted into the business school, what other options are open for me. Also, would it be easier for me to get accepted if I put myself down as a major in the School of Arts and then just changed my major to finance after a semester?

^ No. Major doesn’t change whether or not you’re going to get admitted.

You’re in the bottom 25% for GPA and the lower end of the middle 50% of scores. Getting admitted is a toss up.

Please, if anyone can help me… This is very important, because (as I see) any grants or even scholarships from private institutions are extremely rarely awarded to undergraduate international students. Information about financial aid for students my kind would rather determine if I apply or not.
