I really like Vista I have used it on my friends pc.But I have heard it makes netbooks lag. XP was great. Overall it will be a big upgrade for me since my pc runs ME :p

I don’t think I’d survive with a netbook

me too. ): 15 inch laptop is barely OK. If it wasn’t for portability, I’d buy an 17.

yea im buying an 15’'

I was going to buy a 15", but I came across the HP HDX 16t Premium Series. Man, it’s an amazing laptop. I just ordered it 2 days ago and I can’t wait until I get it. I know it’s going to be pretty hard carrying it around since it is 7 pounds, but it’s totally worth the price I got it for: $750!

It’s super powerful and I got it customized. Hoping to receive it next week =). Can’t wait!

nice buy!!
did you use the hp stackable coupons?

I got my toshiba satellite 305 series for $430. I love my laptop. (: The only thing I was looking for in a laptop was that I could play CS on it. LOLOL. ;x

tehlunatic: Yes, I did. Basically, I got a $1200 laptop for $700 because I got $250 off with instant rebate and $250 off with the stackable coupon. So I got $500 off the laptop all together. It was about $750 because of tax and the recycling fee, but still, it was a VERY good deal.

Also, I got some very very nice upgrades on there too such as the FREE upgrade to 4 GB DDR2 RAM and 500 GB HD. There are so many awesome features on that laptop. I love it.

I posted this before with no reply so maybe some older students can help me out.

I’m an incoming graduate student (PhD), and had questions about UCR housing.

I applied for on campus housing but I’m on the waitlist. In the meantime, where are the best places to live, apartments and areas? I’m looking for somewhere safe and quiet, and walking or biking distance to campus. Garaged parking is a plus.

Also, what are the best places to rent houses? ie. in relation to campus, what part of town is the safest/nicest place to live (north, west, south, east of campus)?

Thanks.

For mister bo jangles

Well, most of the people here are undergraduates, so sorry if you haven’t found much help

I guess you could look around in the Facebook UCR groups

And about the Hp stackable coupons - where can you get these things? They sound awesome

[HP HDX 16t Premium Series w/Core 2 Duo Proc (2.2GHz) & 16" Brightview Infinity Disp., 4GB, 9600M - $700/free ship @ hp.com - Notebook Forums and Laptop Discussion](<a href=“TechnologyGuide - TechTarget”>TechnologyGuide - TechTarget)

for HP stackable coupon for HP HDX 16t

lol yeah, I googled it and found a bunch of stuff

I never figured out though, when they say dual core 2.2 GHz, does that mean each processor is 2.2 GHz, or both combined are 2.2 GHz?

2.2 is kinda low…

I don’t think I’d be able to make my aid cover an extra 700 lol

it means 2 processor of 2.2ghz

Dual core 2.2 is fine
if you are thinking of gaming, go for quad or atleast dual core 2.4ghz

netbooks are cheapy toys.

i am satisfied with the macbook pro 17 :D

btw how is the HDX? i saw several vids on it, is it comparable to the Dell XPS ?(the newer ones)?

i think Macs have the best OS, just my opinion. Most stable, safe, reliable. Of course Macs arent the best for games, but not my problem cuz i wont have time for that in college.

HDX isnt that bad and its comparable to the XPS
They are both very good for watching movies and other media stuff

Macs do look pretty good but they tend to be overpriced. But for doing school related stuff, Macs are one of the best

yeah Macs are overpriced, but they will LAST you a much longer time than a pc for sure.

now i dont wanna start a whole “mac vs pc, whos better”… but to get it the bottom line___

Pcs are way to bugged and you have to reboot the whole OS once in awhile. I like how
macs are so simple and clean, therefore they almost never crash nor have viruses.

I am sort of skeptical on the new windows 7, why is everyone saying it will beat the Mac, when 3 years ago people (windows fanboys) said Vista was the ultimate OS and now you even hear the windows fanboys complaining about Vista… just makes me wonder. Hopefully microsoft will step up in their game

Lol yeah, I guess

I’ve managed to keep my desktop alive for more than 6 years though, and I don’t plan to scrap it any time soon

And please, do not add to the Vista stereotype…It was only buggy when it first came out, but people can’t seem to be able to shake the notion that Vista hasn’t been changed ever since, which is obviously not true

As for viruses on Windows, the majority of them are usually found by going to sites of questionable decency…ahem

As for Macs, I personally can’t work with them.

Dual core 2.2 Ghz sounds cool now
I don’t think I’ll be pulling out any hardcore games in college, so I’d be satisfied with that

I gotta admit Vista was pretty horrible when it first came out. now, its just as good or better than xp.
Windows 7 is just like a better version of Vista. I’ve installed it on one of my other computers and it works very well.(less of a resource hog than vista) I have big hopes for windows 7.

I personally still use xp(downgraded after a month of vista)
If you know how to maintain your pc then you have no problem. My only problem with macs are some things that i want to use aren’t compatible with it and I had to bootcamp my dad’s macbook for windows. Another problem is its way to expensive for the same hardware that you can get in a pc for much lower.
I appreciate however the amount of support that apple brings to their os. Microsoft does indeed fail at making customers happy.

Has any one used the new Linux, Ubuntu
