Is pentland hills very antisocial? Can someone describe the atmosphere?

@Melodyoflife: Pentland Hills is only anti-social because of the separate gender halls. My hall just so happens to be really loud, especially at night, since my hallmates and floormates have tried every possible way to get everyone involved and get to know each other. I think as long as the hall/suite or floor makes an effort of getting to know one another, it shouldn’t be anti-social at all. It’s quite loud outside at night, at least where I live, some of the time. So it really depends on who you get to become roommates with within your hall or floor.

Thank you for your insight. I already know that everyone has to make an effort to be social at Pentland Hills. I’m still worried though. >_<
Yeah, I have decided to choose Pentland Hills after so many days deliberating. Thanks for the reply!!

Pentland Hills is only antisocial if you want it to be - if you have the mindset that it’s antisocial, then it will be antisocial for you

@Current UCR Freshman

I accepted my financial aId award late (on 5/9/10). I didn’t know they changed the deadline from Sep.1 to May 1. Could this cancel my financial aid award? How can it affect me? Please tell me because I’m so scared right now. :(

I was wondering if anyone could give their experience in living in a triple at AI. I noticed that it is the cheapest one and i dont know how comfortable it might i feel that it may be to crowded. Any insight will be very helpful

How do i find out what textbooks my class will use? Thanks in advance.

they will be posted a few weeks befoe school start BUT wait till the first week of classes

you don’t even need books for some classes (:

also… read reviews on your professor on ratemyprofessor.com. you don’t want to be stuck with a horrible professor if you have other choices!

Textbooks are so expensive :(

@ Jason, Jenu, and linoch

Thanks !!!

Pentland definitely is not “anti-social”. However, it could be quiet if you want it to be. The people I knew from Pentland loved it and made loads of friends. Most of the kids in Pentland are going to be freshman looking to make friends, just like you.

Actually, if I could go back and do it again, I might live in Pentland.

rafaela: Yes, changing your major is easy. Just make sure you know what the requirements and all that are for the major and you can make it happen. Talk to a counselor. Don’t stress about it. There’s no rush at this point to be in the right major. For example, I started in CNAS but just took all the classes I’d have taken in BCOE. I later declared an engineering major in my second year.

By the way, you may have noticed that I’m actually transferring. It’s really nothing against UCR… it’s a fine school, haha. I like the particular program for my major better at a few other schools is all.

@arcadefire1027

Hey arcadefire. I have a quick question for you. Is there a lot of people transferring out of UCR? If so, why are they transferring out?

you can pretty much guess why people transfer out…

1) hate the school
2) better programs elsewhere
3) can’t afford it anymore
4) family situation
5) just wanted to go to another school

Teachers are a lot more flexible with textbooks than you think. So far the only thing I’ve noticed is that you might need an electronic code for hw ( which can be bought separately)

I’ve used textbooks different from the recommended and done fine in classes ( including science classes)

I was just wondering, how many questions are on the MAE?

That AP Calculus test was so brutal, I dont think I passed it, and I really want to pass my MAE :x

I don’t remember… but I thought it was easy? It’s just basic algebra and trig stuff. Nothing at all compared to the AP Calc test.

can you rearrange the furniture in the dorms…? cause i was looking at some pictures, and a lot of the furniture arrangements don’t look like the layouts in the halls they’re supposedly from in comparison to the layouts on housing.ucr.edu.

linoch: I can’t really tell you how many people are transferring out. I do have a few friends that are transferring as well. For me, I’m transferring because a) other UC’s have better programs for my major and b) I want to move out of Riverside (I grew up here), and some of the other UC schools have more exciting towns and environments.
