@x8equalsDtilde: I’m pretty sure you can move things around. I moved my desk to face my bed instead of the wall, since there is a small table thingy connected to the desk. lol.

I do have a piece of advice for the incoming freshmen. When you’re scheduling your classes, make sure you don’t put all the easy classes in one quarter… you just end up leaving all the hard classes for another quarter. Balance it. For example… take one hard class and two alright classes… (:

AND… you can start looking at classes now… at classes.ucr.edu. I mean you learn how to register for classes at bear facts, but it never hurts to look at classes ahead of time. I like to prepare for things way ahead of time… Look up the professors on ratemyprofessor.com… Don’t sign up for classes without knowing what the professor is like… you might be setting yourself up for disaster. Anyway, by the time I had orientation, I already knew what classes I wanted to take with what professor… I just had to hope that there was still space left in the class. Just a heads up.

I have a question. Can you change your legal residency status every year? Or does the status remain the same for all four years of attending UCR?

What type of classes do we need as freshman for the first quarter? I’m clueless as to what I’m going to be signing up for.
I’m a biological science major, but i’ve bee talking to the head of the theater department about dual majoring in theater as well.

Also hows summer bridge? Im thinking of applying.

I don’t know how CNAS works because I’m a pre-business student, but here are the breadth requirements: http://www.cnasstudent.ucr.edu/students/Complete%20breadth%2008f..pdf

The first page is basically what you are required to take as a biological science major. The second page gives you the options of what you can take to fill in the blank spots.

One class that most people take their first quarter is English.

–

I think summer bridge is for people that need to take English 4, math 5, or math8a. It’s like a catch up session… because technically if you are in any of those classes, you are technically behind. Assuming that you do have a need for it, I would take it if money is not an issue. I mean… it’s not necessary, so it’s your choice.

Note: English 4 is tedious… and some people think it’s harder than English1a.

do a lot of freshman end up in triple dorms if they don’t request it?

How many people that you know of have gotten in even with a D on their 2nd semester grades?

Makingthemost: not many actually depends on the res hall you pick and how they are demanded

foresicanthro: Well I got in with a F on my fall semester of senior year of hs. But i heard they have gotten stricter. Just be honest.

i took the placement exam for UCR Math, and placed into Math 8A. My major is computer engineering. Am i going to be in a disadvantage because of this score?. Major reason for the low score was i forgot lot of my trig since this year i took AP Calc

Did you take the AP Calc test, and if so, could that override your placement test? I’d look through the General Catalog and anywhere else for info on that. I know the test results aren’t available yet, but you might be able to change once they come out.

Hey IDK who is answering anymore, anyways is Math 8A (Introduction to College Mathematics for the Sciences) a remedial/(you fail at math so you must take this course)?

Basic Info
Biochemistry Major

Sorry, I wasn’t following the rules. I’m not a current UCR freshman by a long shot. Shutting up now.

Does UCR provide cleaning supplies to clean our bathrooms? How about dust cloths?

atlas: I don’t believe Math 8A is a “remedial” class, but it is an introductory class. People do get placed above that, such as into 8B or 9A. I believe math 4 and 5 are the ones considered remedial classes. 8A is basically Pre-Calc.

CC1234: Will you be at a disadvantage? In what sense? You’ll take Math 8A like all the other people taking Math 8A, and then you’ll move onto the Calculus series. I guess you’re at a disadvantage in the sense that you’re a quarter behind those taking 8B/9A right away, but that doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things.

makingthemost: as for triples, you most likely will not be in a triple if not requested. In my hall (East Lothian), there were only three triples out of the 20 or so rooms.

You guys can check out potential classes to take before orientation here: [UC Riverside - Schedule of Classes](http://student08.ucr.edu/em/classes/ScheduleNew/Index.aspx)

No need to map out your schedule too well though before orientation, since a lot of the classes you want may end up being full.

@ Jason2009 : What did they say to you when you had an F? Did you have to make up a class at a CC or something ?

thanks so much arcadefire1027 …the info really helped me

@ rikko: they didnt since it was my 4th math class they said justget a 3.0 overall. Though I did hear from a friend that is going to be a freshman this fall that they have gotten stricter

Just curious…where can you study on campus? The libraries’ opening hours are only till 5pm??

@dntran16: During the week of midterms and finals the library hours are extended to 2AM. Aside from those two weeks, the libraries usually close at 5PM. You dont necessarily have to study on campus, you could study at home.
