You know, I've only paintballed a few times in my life but it is definitely something I wouldn't mind getting into regularly. It simply wasn't cost effective to go many times while having to rent and pay for the gun each and everytime.

As to your question, I wouldn't know but if someone can't answer it perhaps a contact on campus can.

as far as meal plans go, which one would you recommend? 10, 14, or 19?

also, i'm looking to live in FT, where i've been told the food isn't as good. can you change your meal plan once you know which dorm you'll be living in?

I was accepted into both UCLA and UCSB but have always had my heart set on UCSB. I would want to go to UCSB over UCLA if i could get into the honors program freshman year but wasn't offered it. Is there any way to re-apply to be given the opportunity of being part of the honors program?

Anyone know how parking is at UCSB? I'm planning on bringing a car there(although I don't plan on using it too often). I'm a pretty good driver...I drive more than anyone else I know my age. But one of my embarrassing flaws is I really suck at parking! Haha I've bumped another car in a parking lot twice! Are parking lots busy here? Will it be easy to find a spot? I really don't mind walking from the back of a parking lot either (I always do...lol. Paranoid now).

if you're not that into the party scene (but are still a social person), is the social scene still decent? is it easy to meet people or are people always drunk off their asses?

I got accepted but I'm worried about getting rescinded. I received a D+ in AP Physics for the first semester of my senior year, my grade dropped down from a C because of the final exam. I sent out letters to all my colleges right after finding out about this.. explaining what happened and so forth. In my letter I also included that I'm taking a class at a community college to make up for the lost credits.

I tried to message my admissions counselor but he really can't give me any answers right now. All he told me is that it says in my file that if I get a 3 or above on my AP test, my grade will be raised to a passing letter grade.

This is really bothering me because I have no clue if I'm going to get rescinded or not.

If you're living in one of the residence halls, you can apply for a parking permit in various locations. There are parking structures, along with a lot thats located near the soccer field. They all range in different prices and there is a good chance you'll get a permit since most students living in the residence halls don't have cars.

MORGS123: You don't have to be in the party scene in order to have a great social life. The majority of the students here are very easy going and it's easy to make friends. The party scene is just one aspect of the social atmosphere here, but there are so many ways to meet new people, for example; people that live near you, study groups from your classes, sports, clubs and organizations and the 1273213092 billion school events/activities going on regularly hahaha

As for the 10, 14, 19 meal plan situation. I would stick with the 14 plan and see how you like it from there. You have the option to switch your plan each quarter. In my opinion, I ended up getting sick of the dining commons after my 1st quarter, so I prefer switching to the 10 plan and using the extra money that I save to allow me to eat out several times a week if needed.

I have questions regarding the bathrooms in the dorms... -_-
In which dorms do students get private bathroom and which provide public ones?....
I hate HATE HATE showering with someone else.....

Any suggestions for dorm selection for transfer students? I want to have social life but no crazy parties, i'm ok to share room with one other person, and plan to bring my car...

Im going to be a freshman next year at ucsb.. but i can answer your question quite well Aim4UC.

What your looking for is Manzanita Village.... Private Bathrooms as your going to get (4 per bathroom, you can lock them). It houses mostly transfer students, and some freshman. I heard its very quiet there for studying. On the downside, its not really "social".

I know sharing restrooms is a bad idea. Even to me, but we all have to face it. Its not that bad. Nobody is going to open the curtains on you when you are showering!

Thanks again Lawcha!
I was looking @ the floor plans of the dorms, but got confused....does San Rafael provide private bathrooms also?
And does any dorm provide kitchens for students?

San Rafael consists of 3 sections; one multi-level tower, the Ocean Cluster and the Mountain Cluster, which are both 3 levels. They have single dorms, double's dorms, 4 person suites and 8 person suites. 4 person suites share 1 bathroom, 8 person suites share 2 bathrooms, 2 doubles, along with 4 singles share 1 bigger bathroom in a hall.

I currently live in the Ocean Cluster and I know they have Kitchenette's in various locations that everyone can use.

Your 2 choices for dorms are San Rafael and Mazanita, but there's a good chance you'll end up with San Rafael if you apply for a residence hall. During Fall 08, ucsb had a record amount of incoming freshman, so they added a whole floor of freshman to the san raf tower along with 100+ more freshman in Manzanita.

IMO, San Rafael is not where you wanna be for a great social life. Sure, there's going to meet a few friends, but the majority of the people like to keep to themselves.

Apologize for the double post. I have a question myself about dorms:

I think I'm going to request a substance-free floor. They're available at Santa Cruz and Santa Catalina apparently, but I'd rather not be at Catalina since it's so far away from campus and I hear it can get pretty wild there. Can anyone tell me how the substance-free floors are and how the Santa Cruz dorm is?
