And no, you can’t have four meals a day - there are only three meals per day, and you’re prohibited from going into any dining commons more than once during the same meal period (i.e., you can’t have two breakfasts, etc.).

Frankly, I doubt you’d even want to eat that much from here.

actually you can eat 4 meals a day but not daily. breakfast at carillo, portola, or ortega. lunch at carillo, portola, dlg, or ortega. dinner at carillo, portola, dlg or ortega. then late night at dlg. 4 meals but you wont be able to have 4 meals everyday as there is no late night friday-sun. no breakfast on the weekends, only brunch

Personally, I think the ice cream/cereal/hamburger/fries/dessert/PB&J choices are kind of blah. Not even the tater tots can redeem late night, in my view.

I’m from out of state so if I go here I will not know a single person… I got the feeling that everyone was pretty friendly but I’m pretty shy and just a little worried about meeting people (especially if me and my roomate don’t get along). Basically, how easy is it to meet people? I like to party ha but I’m just scared that I’ll end up not knowing anyone who can connect me to parties or IV or whatever…

Oh and how are the sororities? I figure that it’s not huge there but I mean how is it?

I would say it’s pretty easy to meet people, and this is coming from someone who isn’t that “social.” You’ll probably meet some people who live on your floor who you’ll become friends with. Don’t worry about being out of the loop about IV - I think you’ll figure it out pretty quickly.

You should know well in advance of your move-in date who your roommate will be, and where you’ll live. I think we had at least a month before the fall quarter move-in, but I don’t remember exactly, since I was in the middle of FSSP.

Different floors of the library? If there are, I don’t know anything about them.

2nd floor, north end, tends to be engineers and sometimes biz-econ who want quiet areas to work. 4th floor near the dome tends to be people hanging out with their friends.

Ok this is a really random question, but do most people bring their laptops to class to take notes? Or do people still use pens and notebooks and handwrite all their notes?

I think that most people still rely on pens and papers to take notes, though a significant portion of people do bring their laptops to lecture in the various humanities classes like art history and such. This seems to be less common in the science classes.

I’m not a History/Psych major but I am over 25. I will be turning 29 years old right before I start classes at UCSB this fall. I also look younger than I am but I think my looks are starting to catch up to my age. I probably look young-to-mid twenties.

I was a little concerned about going to class with kids who are my younger brother’s age (he’s nearly 10 years younger than I am!) but I took the campus tour for transfer students and most of the kids looked mid-twenties-ish. But everyone appears to be very nice so I’m not going to worry about it too much.

Good luck on your transfer and with school!

Does anyone know much about the graduate housing (San Clemente)? I was wondering how big the individual rooms are (measurements) and what’s included in the furnishings/kitchen. For instance: is there a dishwasher? do you have to bring dishes?

i wouldnt guess that they are that much bigger than an undergrad’s room which is about maybe 10x10(ft)? +/- 2-3ft. i dont think there would be dishwashers. just expect what you would in an dorm room + living room and kitchen (couches, chairs, tables, shelves, oven+stove, etc.) highly doubt they’d give you anything past necessity ie dishwasher. byo eating utensils and stuff to eat off of.

Flushmaverick: I did see the floorplans and description but I was hoping to get a bit more info. I know San Clemente villages are new, but there just doesn’t seem to be nearly as much info on them as the rest of the housing options.

is there any problems with things getting stolen, other than bikes? like clothes from laundry rooms, things from dorms, etc? what do you recommend doing to avoid this? thanks!

rumor has it that if you put santa catalina as one of your top 3 choices, you’ll get it but i cant confirm that. the popularity of each floor changes with the years. two years ago, the honors floor was the least popular and my tour guide told the group that if anyone requested it, most likely they’d get it. i requested it but got my second choice instead; apparently anacapa scholars was really popular this past year.
