Ask a Current UCSB Student Anything!

ocpuck13- probably the no substance dorms haha

What dorm should I try for and what about the “living learning” communities?

I know that for housing during the fall term they ask a bunch of questions to pair you with a roommate. I was wondering if they do the same thing for FSSP?

Hey WCF
I was admitted into Letters and Sciences for pre Computer Science. I want a BS and switch to the engineering school if at all possible. What happens to me? :<

Anyone know how difficult it would be to switch majors from B.A. Pre-Psychology to B.S. Pre-Biopsychology? I’m guessing the requirements are just good grades in standard bio, chem, and stats courses, but is the process of switching majors a *****?

@ nicomagnolia

Just start taking the biopsych requirements as soon as possible. Since it sounds like you haven’t declared a BA Psych yet you won’t really be switching anything. The biopsych major has the intro bio, chem, ochem and physics series which I don’t think is in the BA psych so make sure you start those. Follow this:

Can you briefly describe the different dorms for freshman(i.e. which ones are the more social, which ones are quieter, etc.)?

Thank youuuu

Would you recommend the 10, 14, or 19 meal plan?

similar to MantisToboggan’s post, which dorm would be the best in terms of balanced party/study/guys/girls while having a decent location (parking information would be great as well)

What is SB academically best known for?

I need help with choosing where to live this fall. Is there a ucsb facebook group?

Oh, really? Were you admitted into the B.A. program? I must have been wrong about that, then. The College of Engineering doesn’t offer B.A.'s anymore but L&S must still do it, then.

I don’t know how hard it would be to switch to the B.S. It’s typically difficult for an L&S student to go over to CoE, but going from one CS major to another may be a different case. You’d be best off asking an advisor.

lovetruly, UCSB is best known for physics, biological sciences, chemical engineering, materials engineering (grad level), sociology, earth science…

how strong is the environmental program?

Can’t believe I left out my home department. My bad. Of course we have the first and one of the best Environmental Studies programs in the country.

is there wifi all over campus?

Are the dorms closed during break? If so, which dorms and which breaks (fall/winter/spring/summer)?

yes, they are all closed during thanksgiving break, winter break, and spring break. you’re not allowed to live in them during those times.

yes. all over campus. but, of course there are deadspots in certain classrooms or lecture halls. . .

I was just wondering what a normal weekend is at ucsb. Are there parties every weekend or is it just once in a while.

it’s more like every day.
