Stupid me I thought school id. I think they look into ID’s carefully, they really are careful about not selling to minors.

@ayymeer: Most likely you will have to pay the insurance. Even if you already have one they don’t wave them easily. They have to meet certain requirements which most fail to meet. Like mine I met all of them but one small one and still couldn’t get a waiver.

I’m not sure about siblings IDs in IV. My friend uses his brothers ID in Goleta and it works

I know if you try to buy alcohol at Albertsons they look at your ID VERY carefully, and they are usually pretty good about catching people. I’ve seen people get their IDs taken away at Albertsons multiple times.

okay. so it just really depends on the place I go. I use my sisters in where i live all the time (norcal), and it works just fine. We look alike and it is real so Im guessing I should be fine in atleast a few places

How are the suites in San Raf? Is it any more fun than living in a double?

Can you fit a 22.70" x 9.00" x 21.50" computer in or near the desk?

@ Jeka91

You get like a living room to share and the bath room isn’t smack dab in the middle of the two rooms like in FT. Also, the San Raf floors have funny little study rooms the size of a closet. I enjoyed it (Mountain cluster)

@FrickenHamster

Not sure if that’s a standard desktop tower size, but my friend had to keep his comp on the floor (FT)

Its a full tower ATX

I have already gotten my classes but the issue is I have 10 minutes to get to the next class. One of my classes is located at Embar hall. Once that lecture ends I have 10 minutes to get to Phelps. Would I have enough time or should I drop one of the classes? All the later times are full. Or would the instructor say no to being 5 minutes late if I notified them about my issue?

@jasonlee

That’s what the 10 minutes are for. People even choose to have their classes one right after another. Just walk/fast briskly.

And professors rarely care if you are late, but it depends on the class/size

I’m entering as a freshman this fall. I picked my classes for the fall quarter at Orientation in June, but I was wondering about when Freshmen get to choose classes for the Winter quarter? Is it during Fall Quarter, or over the Holiday break in December? And also, are there any students who already got to choose classes for Winter quarter? Because I was looking at the Curriculum search for Winter quarter on GOLD, and it shows a lot of classes are already full, even though they say closed next to them because registration hasn’t started yet.

You get to sign up for Winter quarter classes during fall quarter, if I remember correctly pass times were at the end of October. Since you are a freshman, you’ll have one of the last pass times and therefore will have limited class spots. No people can’t sign up for Winter quarter classes yet because those pass times haven’t started yet.

Does anybody happen to know how hard it is to get into the MA program in Economics at UCSB? Seems like they admit around 50 new student each year into the master’s program. I just graduated from UCSB myself lol with a BA in Business Economics and the MA program really interests me. Thanks.

do the 4/6/8 person suites in san raf have different costs? i just got charged $4500 for housing for fall which is freakin ridiculous. san cat last year only cost me $3300~ per quarter.

How is UCSB compared to let’s say UCSD rpi UCLA cal poly slo and Cornell???

Also what is honors program like? Difficulty ect…

What are the average statistics in getting in???

what is you best engineering department???

im going to ucsb in the fall and i have registered for classes already.
do i have to buy textbooks before my move in day?
can i purchase my textbooks after the first day of school?
i find it difficult to buy textbooks right now because i dont kno what books i need for my classes

@Collegeboy

It depends, there are many things to compare UCSB to. Ranking wise UCSB is not very different from UCSD, and it is definitely getting closer to UCLA each year. In some rankings, we rank higher than UCSD, in others, we rank lower, it really depends on the programs and the majors you are interested in.

The honors program is probably the same like any other UC, you get priority registration, which is definitely a plus. You have to take honors classes, so I am going to guess it will be more difficult. There really isn’t much of a difference except that you choose classes way earlier than most people.

The average GPA of the fall of 2011 class is 4.08, and the average SAT is 1908. I will say however, is that the chances of you getting into college depend HIGHLY on your graduating class in high school. If you are in a really academically achieving high school where the student with the #50 rank has a GPA of like, 4.0, getting into college is a lot harder compared to say you were in a high school where the #50 rank’s GPA is like 3.5. I was in a low academically achieving high school and students in my high school were admitted into UCLA with very high GPAs of 4.0+ but SAT scores in the range of 1600-1800.

The best engineering department here is Materials engineering, as we are ranked #1 by the NRC and I’m pretty sure #4 by US World News report.

@K4yl.dsfdfd.
You really don’t HAVE to buy them the first day, in fact I highly advise you wait until you want to keep the class. If you are for sure dead set on your schedule with no intentions to change it at all, then yeah you can purchase them before move in day, and yes you can purchase them the first day of school as well. Students constantly change their schedules so they always sell books, even at the end of the quarter. It does get very pricey though, so try to find used ones if you can. I’m sure if you look on the class of 2015 page you’ll find plenty of upperclassmen trying to sell their books. You can find which textbooks you need here http://www.ucsbstuff.com/SelectTermDept.aspx. Just check the department of the class, choose the specific class, and it will tell you which textbooks you need.

The materials engineering department is very good here, but there is no undergrad degree for it. There’s only a grad program. The best undergrad engineering departments here are chemical and mechanical.
