Yeah. If you’ve never done calculus, 19A in itself will be hard enough.

There are coed floors for Parrington House, Cowell. I would say males and female ratio were equal. Here’s a layout of Parrington House last year. It might have changed a bit for this year, but I hope this helps.

The first floor is a coed floor with a diversity library on the left side of the building and a kitchen+ a single staff member housing on the right side (don’t see this person often). The second floor left side is also coed with a Resident Assistant (RA). The 2nd right side is coed with a lounge room (chair, table, tv, microwave, balcony). I believe the third floor left was LGBT. The third floor right was an all female floor with RA. Though you’ll have to go through a couple of flights of stairs every day, you be less likely to have your stuff stolen. A lot of first floor people in the past have had their things stolen because of open windows.

Okay. Thanks for your advice Liesel & zabdullah! Now I know which one the choose.

I already checked rate my prof for you rika, if you want an easier class, take Berman. But if you want to think long term success, take Baurle; He has a harder class, but anyone could pass it as long as they try. It’ll prepare you for 19B also.

I’m an incoming freshman and I got a single  It has its pros, but I wanted a double. College Nine’s staff was kinda rude on the phone and told me they aren’t dealing with things till August, there wasn’t even a waiting list. Do you guys think I won’t get a double at all?

Just want to confirm that Baurle is a good teacher. I had him for 19A and 19B. Very nice guy, goes out of his way to help students.

@rockrmoose: A lot of people like to switch into singles, so I think it’ll happen.

I guess the only problem with choosing Baurle is that his class is from 3:30-4:40 which would leave an around 3/4 hour gap between my Chem 1A class at 9:30 and math19A. What could I be doing between this gap? I’m having second thoughts. XD I have asked the opinion of my mom. Honestly I don’t know which schedule I would be more comfortable with. I have been always used to my classes being stuck together. Anyone want to share experiences? :)

What I do when I have time in between classes and I don’t feel like walking back to my room, is I’ll sit down in a study area (Jack’s Lounge, a library…) and use is as my excuse to get homework done. If possible, you could also schedule your math discussion section in that gap.

Besides, I see that one of them is in Classroom unit 2, and the other is in Classroom unit 1. :stuck_out_tongue: So unless you live all the way down in 8/Oakes, the walk isn’t bad.

yay! Finally enrolled in all my classes! Thanks for all your help you guys. Looking forward to the coming school year.

The classes we signed up for during orientation, are they final?

Nah you can still swap or drop them till like sept 26 or near there

Thanks
Would you happen to know if a discussion is needed for LALS 1? all the discussion classes show that they’re closed, but I was told to put no preference instead of a wait list. So I’m not sure if there just isn’t a class or… ?

Is anyone taking Chem 108A with Linington??? I tried looking that professor up on ratemyprofessor and isnt there. Any insight?

would there be any reason why they don’t give you the qualified Cal Grant A? I couldn’t do anything about it (at a diff. country right now, calls are jammed, mailing… takes money and time)

So what clothing should we bring to santa cruz? I am from LA, and it gets pretty hot down here… I know when I went to orientation, it was very chilly (and NICE) in the morning, then got pretty hot during mid day, and cooled down rapidly during the night… My friend told me to bring rain boots for the winter, lol. But overall, do we need full clothing most of the year? Like should we bring more pants, jackets, long-sleeved shirts vs shorts and tank tops?

Also… should I bring my surfboard? I currently surf two days a week down in LA… but do you think that there will be any possibility of going surfing up there with classes? Do people normally have time to surf?

The weather in santa cruz during fall and spring quarter is nice enough in that you’ll feel comfortable wearing shorts or pants. During the early morning and evenings you’ll probably want to wear a light jacket/sweater. During winter quarter it is noticeably colder and wetter. Pants and jackets/hoodies are a must during the mornings and evenings, although its not too bad during the day.

I don’t surf, but i know people that do. I’m sure you’ll find time to surf every once in a while. However, the amount of time will be dependent on your course load and work ethic. I believe surf boards are not allowed on the city buses, so your gonna need to find your own transportation to get to and from the beach. I would say walking is out of the question.

Im assuming the weather in Santa Cruz is similar to the Bay Area. Throughout the year, it’ll always be cold in the morning. Besides that, the weather is fairly predictable. T-shirt and shorts from May to September, sweater/jacket and jeans from October to April. In the winter, you’ll have to wear a jacket most days.

It doesn’t rain much in the Bay, though, and I’ve heard it gets really wet in Santa Cruz.

Rumors of Santa Cruz’s wetness are overstated. For two or three months, it’ll rain a few days a week for possibly a few hours at a time. The solution is really just to keep an umbrella folded up in your backpack from late fall to early winter quarter; you’ll be fine.

Okay, that sounds reasonable! My friend who went to UCSC two years ago but withdrew for personal reasons and ended up in my CC physics class this past spring told me that it rains so much that she bought rain boots. I was thinking it may be a good idea, as getting really wet and itchy in class sucks. I live near the beach in So Cal, and it seems like the weather is similar but like 10 degrees colder up there.

The buses don’t allow surfboards? That sucks! My mom told me not to bring mine so it won’t get chipped, warped, or stolen. Ohhh welllll, so much for defiance lol
