Shut up Investment… Did you not read? You are about to become a d o u c h e bag. Although it seems the process has already begun.

I’ll **** on you all the way from the Ivy League anyway AND take your job.

…so suck on that.

@ Investment

I see motorcycles around here pretty frequently actually, I did not bring mine with me though. Too cold in the mornings for my taste. I also see a ton of scooters. I think it would probably be ok.
Have fun not learning anything and taking away a meaningless piece of paper :P. I have had 2 Haas students tell me they learned more at community college than they have here this semester, lol!

@ Santa Cruz

Media would have me believe? I personally know 2 people that have been mugged for their backpacks/laptops this semester at gun point.
I also know countless other people that had their cars broken into, and don’t get me started on the bike thefts.
If someone comes up to me with a gun and asks me for my backpack, good for them… Their life probably sucks anyways and most likely in a few years they will be in prison getting raped(literally).
Or I can try to defend myself and possibly get shot or stabbed. The cost of losing my backpack and its contents = a few hundred bucks, I’ve been known to spend that much on a meal.
I wasn’t aware of rape being a problem around here (other than @ frat parties jkjk) and in that instance pepper spray probably wouldn’t hurt. Still wouldn’t use either one of those items in a mugging.

Billionare - congrats on Cornell!

and i’ll let you guys know how it goes with my pepper spray. :D

^Let’s hope we won’t ever have to make use of our pepper sprays!

@Billionaire: Wow, congrats on Cornell! Are you going?

knocks on wood :)

Thanks guys… Yeah I’ll be headed there this fall.

…if Berkeley gives me Regents’, I’d reconsider

@ BPkid101 I see what you’re saying, and I agree that certain situations might warrant a different response than fighting back. I just meant to say be prepared for anything. I’m the type of guy who has a bag of stuff packed for earthquakes and other disasters, ready to go. I have certain kits in the trunk of my car, in case something happens when I’m away from my house. And always something in my pocket, too, like a multi-tool or just a plain old knife. Let me reiterate that I doubt anyone on here is going to get robbed. All I’m saying is prepare yourself for it. Who knows what might happen?

By the way, from what I understand you’re more likely to die from a knife attack then you are from a gunshot wound. Unless you get shot in the head, of course, but for some street urchin crack fiend, thats a small target.

youre making the right choice, I would have gone private if I had realized how ridiculously low berkeley average gpa’s are. too late now

^Whats the average? Is this across the board for every major?

Berkeley is among the highest of the UCs, actually. Privates do tend to have higher average GPAs than publics, though–it’s grade inflation at work, I think.

The question is, do grad schools take into account the possibility of grade inflation in their admissions process? Also I wonder about the importance of GRE/ LSAT/ MCAT etc etc on grad school admissions vs. GPA.

Hey Billionaire that was mean!

I am glad I will be heading to the safe UC La Jolla.

Yeah I’m glad I got the chance to avoid the headache of going public. I need my GPA as high as possible (3.7+) and I’ll have the opportunity to do that without getting screwed by curves (for the most part).

@Investment: Yeah, well I seriously hear what BP is talking about from everybody associated with Berkeley (TAP people, students, alums etc). Everybody. Everyone says Haas kids think they **** roses… and are apparently the dumbest kids on campus.

@BPkid101 Have you referred to Courserank (https://www.courserank.com/berkeley/main) at all? I found the link on this board, and I’m wonder how useful it is in practice since you’re talking about grade distributions and such.

@santacruzstefan How often have you had to use your weapons?

^ Thankfully, not a single time. I hope I never have to.

@BostonCrmPie

yes but be careful with that site, I printed out my schedule on it the first week because it was easier to read- turns out it had the wrong room listed for one of my classes, SO EMBARRASSING!

@santacruzstefan

For law school and premed deflation/inflation are not considered at all. A 3.6 from chico state will get you in to med school where as a 3.4 from UC berkeley will not get you into any med schools in the US. Same logic applies to law school, there’s an interesting thread about it floating around somewhere on the forums. Other majors may consider it buy I am not sure which.

Pulease, needing to carry a knife in California?!? The majority of Californians’ don’t even know how to fight nevermind use any sort of weapon that isn’t attached to a video game console. Give me a break. Berkeley is not Richmond and there are only a few dangerous neighborhoods in Oakland and SF. If anyone is afraid of walking out after 8 pm or even midnight anywhere in the bay area they are most likely a sheltered scared lil sheep afraid of life and people in general. Hobos, bums, and blacks oh my XD. No wonder many of the regs here can only socialize online and hardly handle a serious text relationship.

Don’t forget to pack a May 21st 2011 Rapture Survival kit…just in case!

Aside from what I have listed below I have had 2 friends mugged at gunpoint this semester, 3 other people and myself with cars broken into, countless other people with bikes stolen. I have been confronted by “blacks of my XD” on multiple occasions with weapons on their person. tell me I am a sheep, dumb ****ing ■■■■■. you are clearly the “angryengineer” that studies in his room 24/7 and doesn’t go out ever, want to know how I can tell? your racism and smiley face XD scream of forum ■■■■■■■■ nerd.

anyways now that the subjective character bashing has been accomplished lets goto some crime figures that support my argument:

The list below is all crime in north and south berkeley as well as university crime (meaning Berkeley area only no richmond or oakland, and if you think the low lives from those area don’t come creeping into berkeley at night you haven’t talked to the police around here- ignoramus).
