Ask a Middlesex Student

Believe me, in the grand scheme of things, SSAT scores barely matter. It’s common sense - just score as high as you can and be happy with your best.

I have an interview and tour at Middlesex in a few weeks. Is it true that the tour guides fill out a paper on how interested you seemed during the tour?

That certainly doesn’t happen at Andover, where I give tours. I doubt it would be the case at other schools, either…

english program is quite hard (for me anyway, but i can’t exactly compare it to another school’s. suffice it to say that I have always been “good” at writing but i have really had to work hard on it at mx).

procrastinators still do okay (look at me). i’m trying to get out of my bad habits, though. maybe i’ll ask a daygirl for organizational halp (lol ;))

SSAT really doesnt matter

and yes, we do fill out a form.

how was your essay that you had to write during your interview? how long did they give you to write it?

do you consider middlesex’s writing program their forte? (i lovelovelove writing asdfghjkl) do they have a literary magazine/how is it?
:)

I’ve asked this on a different thread, but what is the acceptance at Middlesex for someone applying as a freshman boarder?

Also, when I had my tour at Andover, my tour guide kept on asking me if I had any questions and if I had a good tour, so I don’t think he thought I was interested.

can you give us any insight to some of the questions you fill out? Like is it basically all about interest?

The essay that you write in the interview is really an unadulterated look into your writing skills. It does not need to be amazing. It should, however, show writing skills appropriate for your age level.

Middlesex’s writing program is something that is unique to it. Middlesex has many other strengths though.

There is a literary magazine called Iris and the school newspaper, The Anvil.

I believe it is right around 20-25%. I am not sure what the exact numbers are for different grades, genders and day students/boarders.

It is always good to ask questions on a tour although acting excited can also help. Sending your tour guide a thank you note can also help.

The sheet is really more for general impressions. There is a basic rubric and then the tour guide is asked to comment.

feel free to PM me anyone has other questions.

I am a soccer recruit to middlesex, what can you tell me about the school, academics, social life, etc thanks any help would be appreciated. i really loved my tour at middlesex everyone was so nice and friendly more so then at the other top schools. the coach is a great guy and i like all of the kids on the team. oh i also will becoming in as a new junior is that going to be a weird transtition, intergrating myself into a grade who have been together for 2 years. thanks

bump…

there is a lot of information on the website. Its helpful if you ask a more specific question.

New juniors fit in well. You will find friends, in addition being a fall athlete will give you a base of teammates who you can hangout with for the first few days of school.

will i have a single or a double dorm room

do you go to MX?

could be either. There are a lot of factors that play in.

and yes.

yeah can i pm you

of course.

Anyways…I am also a MX’12 student…and honestly have no clue who Izzy and Blah are at the moment (you guys can pm me if you want)

So ill address some of the points brought up.

A. Writing Program - Yes, very challenging, very rigorous, very demanding…and reputable…
B. Dorm Single or Double - Depends, all mx students are told to prepare for a roommate at least once in their career. this doesnt happen always…most commonly, doubles go to new sophs, new juniors, and others that have requested them. I myself requested a single as an incoming new soph, but got a double. Though I was skeptical at first, its turning out to be a valuable experience. I made an instant friend and became more social as a result.
Social Life: MX thrives on gossip. Others know your social life fast.

Any other questions let me know…

allright i will when i got the time

i have finals

Middlesex has become my first choice. Everything about Middlesex was just so welcoming.

Do you think it would be worth it to transfer to MX if i’m unhappy @ the school i’m at. I’m really upset i didn’t apply this year :/
