Hi, I just recently had interviews at Exeter and Middlesex and want to know a little more about the two schools since I loved them both. Anybody who goes to or went to either of the schools would help alot.
How much average homework a night for the two?
How often do you leave campus for any reasons?
Is the workload much more for one or the other or about the same?
Any tips on what else to do in the boarding school process?
I didn’t go to either, so I cannot help you there. But I’m having a hard time getting past @GrotonKid123 is asking questions about other schools. Irony at its finest! (And it’s totally ok, too, btw—just amusing to me). I hope someone is able to answer your questions soon!
@GrotonKid123 that’s funny! Glad you have a sense of humor about it! @CaliMex really is on to something, though. They are on the polar opposite sides of size & situation criteria. MX is a very small school & somewhat isolated from town. PEA is in the heart of Exeter & in some ways it’s hard to distinguish the campus from public structures. My DS hated both the size and setting of PEA & knew he didn’t want to apply after a very informal visit there. On the other hand, he loved the fact that MX was set apart and intimate. He did not want to be part of a large student body. So, MX was near the top of his list for a long time. As far as insider details, I cannot help. @atria is a student at MX—maybe if she gets time before M10, she can answer questions for you. I’m blanking on who went to Exeter from last year’s bunch… @lusitari got into both schools & I think ? Went to Exeter? Anyway. Good luck!
@GrotonKid123 I cant speak to Middlesex but at Exeter you can have 5 to 6 hours of homework a night. Kids leave campus for sporting events or other schools events. There is the small sort of historic downtown Exeter that abuts the campus so that is quite nice as it offers some restaurants, bakeries, ice cream shops etc.that are a very quick walk. It actually hardly equates to leaving campus. I think based on knowing a few kids at Middlesex and many at PEA that Middlesex is a bit more laid back.
