It depends on how many vacancies ResLife ends up with. People who are going to study abroad, do university exchange programs, transfer, withdraw, and maybe move off campus (but i don’t think you can cancel housing for that anyway so maybe not) will all produce vacancies. Then you have the people trying to shuffle around their housing for the next semester (meaning those who want a new room assignment and are not doing a mutual exchange which is really easy to arrange) and they are also vying for housing. I don’t think you’ll be denied housing (but I’m not a transfer so I’m not sure) but you probably won’t get your top choice unless some pulls a few strings for you.

Thank you. I wont be particularly choosy this semester, I understand that I’d be lucky to get on campus housing. lol. By pulling strings, do you mean that someone would have to request me?

They’d have to request you and probably go lobby the community or housing office to make sure it goes through.

how often do you need a computer during class and do you recommend using a desktop or a laptop?

You usually will not need the laptop during class, because if your class requires the computer, the classroom will be in a computer room. However, you can usually bring the laptop to lectures.

It depends on what you prefer to take notes on: the laptop or notebooks.

I strongly recommend to have a laptop, because you will need it to do your homework. Also, you can easily bring the laptop to places unlike the desktop.
