ASK a UCLA student ANYTHING!

hi, could anyone answer a couple questions on housing? Is a plaza really as antisocial as everyone says it is? Would I not really make friends with people on my floor in a plaza?

Also, if I have a roommate (we mutually chose each other on Facebook) whose personality turns out to completely clash with mine, is it better to change to a random roommate? I guess what I’m asking is how good are the random matchups, usually? Thank you! :)

I took the AP Calc AB exam last year and received a 5. From the UCLA website, this allows me to not take the math placement exam. However, I have not sent this score in as I am still taking AP exams this year. I know that UCLA will receive all of my scores in July, but the math placement exam is in June. Do I need to rush my score for Calc AB and pay the $15 fee or can I wait until July?

Is the CAR first-come-first-serve? Will it matter if I submit it at the deadline rather than right now?

What is the most you have ever heard in terms of units allowed over the unit cap?

is non impacted major easier to be accepted as freshmen?
i wanted to major in economics, but my sat is only 1950 so i am thinking of applying as math/econ major under math department…
also, is it true that it is very difficult to change major to econ or psychology after admission?
thank you for your help

@hyworld100: no. It doesn’t matter what major you apply to, only the school you apply to. If you’re in letters and sciences, it doesn’t matter. You could retake the SAT at the end of this month if you want. It’s not difficult to switch majors at all. You just fill out a form.

@csagan: maybe 2 units over the cap. You have to petition to go over the cap.

@cryingtears: You might not need this anymore, but for others out there: don’t rush your scores. You can still register in the classes you need at orientation. They check your scores to make sure they’re high enough afterwards.

Hi, I have a question regarding switching majors as a transfer junior student. I desperately need a definite answer… if someone can help me out I would greatly appreciate. Thank you

Would it be harder for you to switch majors from a non-engineering major (Letters and Science major) to an engineering major (HSSEAS major) than from an engineering major (HSSEAS major) to engineering major (HSSEAS major)? Or is there no difference?

No. As a transfer, you can’t switch to SEAS unless you were already admitted to it. You can try to switch majors within SEAS, but I don’t know if you can switch into an impacted major.

Hello! I am Silvia, I am a senior in High School in Brazil and I am currently working on my application for UCLA. I am about to take the TOEFL tomorrow and the SATs in November 2nd. I would like to know what scores in those exams do you expect to be accepted. Also, I am an IB Diploma student, is there a minimum score that I should achieve to be a strong candidate? I promise this is the last question, what are your tips for my personal statement, what would you like to see in it? Thank you very much, I will wait for your response.

I.B. or A.P. if I want to go to UCLA?
And don’t say either!

IB is widely recognized at many top colleges and universities, and if you have the choice - go the IB DP (IB Diploma Program) way. It’s tough but it’s well worth it in the end.

What is the best advice you can give me for admission into UCLA?

I’m a CCC student about to earn an AA in political science. I finished my degree in three semesters rather than four, and I plan on using the extra semester to do a volunteer internship in either France or Senegal for human rights. Will the semester not spent in school reflect poorly on my application?

Hi,
As an international student applyng from England, how is the campus life and is it easy to make friends and talk to people.
Also im suprised they dont offer single freshman rooms, in england everyone gets there own room and bathroom.
Also im quite sporty i play football and american football, would it be hard to get into teams - i know Americans take their college sports pretty seriously
thanks Matthew

A.P. courses & test scores will give you college credits at UCLA. I.B. not so much.

Could anyone confirm if as a transfer if you can switch majors within HSSEAS, including switching into an impacted major? Thank you

From their website

Thanks for the reply, but I would like to find out how hard it was to do so from others who have done so more than anything.

I know that UCLA asks for you to self-report test scores from one sitting for both tests (total 2 tests) but when I send my official scores, can I send two sittings for both the SAT and ACT (total 4 tests)? Thank you!
