Ask an Admission Counselor

Mumof3 - I got your message but was unable to answer. I don’t have enough posts to PM. PM me your email address and I will answer you from my personal email.

Hi Sullivan7, are you still waiting to hear back? The decision should have made its way there by now. If you still haven’t heard, email me at nlentine@champlain.edu and I’ll see what’s going on.

Good morning all, My DS received a letter yesterday on how to log in and check application status…all necessary pieces were received on 11/15. Any idea how much longer until decisions will follow? So exciting!! Thank you!

Good morning tpcrd66! Did your son apply for Early Decision 2 or for Regular Decision? Early Decision 2 letters will be going into the mail on Feb. 15th; Regular Decision letters will be going out in early March.

Let me know if you have any additional questions!

On Common App, Champlain only allows for one teacher recommendation. Most colleges put a minimum of 3 allowed, even if they only require 1. Is there a way to bypass this? Is it possible for the Champlain rep responsible for Common App to change the number allowed to 2 or more? My DS has two and Common App arbitrarily chose the recommendation.

Nicole, thank you for your quick response. He did apply Regular Decision…so, March it is.
I know it will be here in the blink of an eye but when you are waiting…oh how the time drags! :)

Hi student4ever, I’m sorry that the Common App site is set up that way. I can certainly bring it to the attention of our Operation Staff, but in the meantime, you can email or snail mail those recommendations to us - we’ll make sure to get them attached to the student’s file, as long as it has their full name on there!

Hi tpcrd66,
I understand! We get many of those questions at this time of year. Please assure him that we’re reading through them as quickly (but thoroughly) as we can! It’s about 5,000+ applications to read between seven of us, so as you might guess, it takes some time!

If I can get the teacher to send the letter by email, to what email address should it be sent? Should the letter be sent to my son’s admissions counselor directly or just to admissions? Thanks for the prompt response.

Hi student4ever,
You can send it directly to the admissions counselor. Do you want me to post the link to the counselor assignments, or do you already know who your son’s counselor is?

Thanks, Nicole. My son does have his counselor’s contact info.

Based on some recent messages on this thread, it looks like Champlain now has a portal for checking application status. When should applicants receive information on how to access the portal–and will it be via email or snail mail?

Hi earthtones,
That’s a good question. I’m not sure myself, so I’m reaching out to our Operations Staff about that. I’ll let you know when I find out!

Thanks, Nicole. My son received a letter from the admissions office yesterday noting that it was a “gentle reminder” to submit his portfolio (game design), but he submitted the portfolio (and received a confirmation from Slideroom) a week before the date on the letter. He is contacting his admissions counselor to be sure everything is copacetic–and it’s a great excuse to reach out to him–but I can only imagine how hectic the admissions office is at this time of year! If there were such a portal to check, he wouldn’t have to bother anyone.

@earthtones - S’14 applied Jan 14/15 and received a letter via snail mail explaining “webadvisor” so that the applicant can check that Champlain has received all materials. Decisions will be sent via snail mail. Good luck to your S.

Thank you, @student4ever:slight_smile: - our operations staff has been crazy busy at this time of year, so I hadn’t heard back yet!

Thanks, @student4ever:slight_smile: My son submitted his materials a day or two earlier than yours (for ED2), but the only mail he’s received have been the portfolio reminder and note from financial aid office. He does have receipt confirmation from Common App, Slideroom (for portfolio), College Board, and ACT, and can see on his school’s Naviance system that transcript and recommendation were sent some time ago. But it would put my mind at ease if he could see confirmation from Champlain that all the pieces are in hand. (My son is amazingly laid back so he’s not as worried as me!)

Did your son apply via Common App or directly through Champlain website? Maybe that’s the difference. Or maybe our mail is slow. We’re in Maryland.

@earthtones - Common App. I am sending you a pm.

A totally different question for you, @NicoleChamplain: Does Champlain admissions consider a student’s AP scores in your decision-making process? One of the schools my son applied to (before he visited Champlain and fell in love) asked for AP scores; others didn’t seem to want them unless/until he enrolled.

Ahhh, I see where the disconnect is, @earthtones! We had been building that website over the last few months, so it was only launched for Regular Decision, not for ED1 or ED2. The best way to check would be to connect with his counselor. If you would like me to help, let me know!
