A few questions…

When do we apply for housing? It says midmay to early june and the link provided on the pre-orientation checklist is broken.

When will we receive the mailing about selecting classes? I heard it went out this past week but I haven’t gotten anything.

For the college e-mails, are we supposed to be using the google apps?

Hi Feareman. You can apply for housing from this week to early June. Follow this link and sign in using your PAWS ID and password to do so. starrezportal.tcnj.edu. If you recieve an error message, make sure your password and ID are correct and then try again the next day.

A mailing is going out this week directly from the Office of Records & Registration about selecting classes. If you do not recieve anything by the end of next week, please give us a call at 609.771.2131. If you have questions about how to register for classes you can check out the Records & Registration website at [FAQs :: Records & Registration :: TCNJ](TCNJ | Records and Registration)

For email you need to use Google Apps. When you log into myTCNJ, you need to click on the Google Apps button on the left side. Then click on the login for Google Mail on the bottom left hand side of that screen. You’ll also see the option to log in to Google Calendar and Google Docs

If submitting ACT scores, are you required to send SAT scores as well? Also, what is the average accepted ACT scores for early decision? Thanks so much.

Hi Justsmile1! If you are submitting your ACT scores, you are not required to send us SAT scores. The middle 50 percent of ACT scores for our incoming freshman class are between 27 and 31. That score range is the same for the Early Decision admits.

I’m not too sure whether or not you are the person I should be addressing this question too, but… Does the college of New Jersey have an artificial intelligence program that will allow me to get into the best AI graduate programs in the country (assuming I do well in these classes)? I am already enrolled at the college for open options business, but my curiosity has piqued in AI and I simply want to know if I should stay at TCNJ or transfer to a school that would be more able to advance me in this field. I really want an unbiased answer; I can understand if the college isn’t specialized in that field just yet. Also, if I would be better off to address this question to someone else, feel free to let me know.

That’s a really good question Startarevolution! My frist thought is that you would want to study some sort of engineering and I can assure you that TCNJ has a very strong engineering program. Our student placement at graduation is nearly 100%! For more information on our engineering programs, follow this link. [School of Engineering :: The College of New Jersey](The College of New Jersey | School of Engineering)

Someone who may have a better answer for you is James Chambers, the Assistant Director of Career Services. He might be better able to guide you in what major you should be looking into for graduate programs in AI. He can be reached at 609.771.2161 or by email at jchamber@tcnj.edu

I hope this helps! We’ll see you at Orientation!

Dear AdmissStaffTCNJ,

I recently visited the college this week, and I absolutely fell in love with the school!
However, I have heard of many students getting rejected who had much higher SAT scores than I do, so I do not think I am up to par to get accepted into this school. I was wondering what all the factors were that get weighed in on were, and if I should still bother applying…

Also, I was wondering if you knew, or were able to tell me what the most popular majors are at the school? And, if your choice of major can help or hinder your chances of getting in?

Thanks!

Hi Aammww20!

That’s a really good question. It’s important to understand that your SAT/ACT scores are not the be all, end all when it comes to applying to TCNJ. We take a look at 5 factors when reviewing an application and based on all of those factors make a decision.

1 - HS transcript. We are looking to see students who take a challenging course load (Honors, AP, IB courses). We also look to see your rank (if offered) and the grades you got in those classes.
2 - Your SAT/ACT scores. We don’t have a minimum requirement for these scores. The middle 50% of our incoming class usually has an SAT score between 1220 and 1380 for the math and critical reading sections and between a 27 to a 31 on the ACT.
3 - Your activities resume. We like to see students who are involved outside of the classroom. For this reason, we want the students who are applying to tell us all the activities they are involved in during high school: sports, part time jobs, volunteer work, girl scouts/boy scouts etc… let us know!
4 - Letters of recommendation.
and finally, 5 - Your personal essay.

So, in short, you should definitely apply! As you can see, there are a lot of factors that we consider when looking at an applicant.

Our most popular majors are biology, psychology and nursing. Just because we have more students applying to those majors, they are a bit more competitive. If you are interested in any of those majors, I would definitely apply into them when submitting your application, just because we cannot guarantee that you will able to switch into them once you enroll as a student here.

I was wondering, what was the admission rate for the TCNJ Class of 2015? I saw on College Board that it was 47% for the Class of 2014, but was it more selective for the Class of 2015?

it’s really easy to get in. no worries

My roommate was at accepted students day and heard there were over 1000 applicants to the bio program and only about 120 were accepted. I’m curious as to whether these numbers are accurate. Thanks!

I haven’t taken any AP classes yet, and I am a rising senior. Would it help if I was to take on a few AP classes?

yeah, unless you’re dumb and can’t handle them. in that case, it’ll probably hurt more than help you. good luck!

Dr. Lovett said 1300 for 80 spots

Ahhh ok yeah I’d also heard 80 spots too! Thanks we were wondering if that was true or if some parent had just gotten wrong information.

thank you! i guess im going to talk to my guidance counselor and try to switch into some!

Are any of you guys going to TCNJ right now?

I am a current biology major

Is this school extremely selective?

What kind of GPA, or scores should I make sure I have?

Also, does this school offer anything for someone interested in speech pathology?

Is there anywhere I can find the full COA for the 2011-2012 year? The FA awards were released and I need to see how I stack up.

yes! I would love to know that too!
