I have another quick question: I’m buying my books from the OSU website (since they’re not anywhere else to be found…), and when I put the books into my shopping cart and select ‘checkout’, they’re listed as being new books (full price) in the menu, even though I selected “Used (if available)”. I don’t want to be charged the full price, so how do I make sure that I’m buying used textbooks?

@OrbInfinite–You’ll most likely need all of the required books for this semester. And yes. I know lots of people that went through the joys of FEH…

@aiminhigh–OsuMEngineer is correct. While you can sell loose leaf to other students, NO bookstore will buy it back from you. I recommend using Amazon; when you search for a book on there it will show the New price, make sure to click the link that takes you to the used ones. If you have issues, post the ISBN on here and I’ll post the cheapest link.

I have never heard of Neebo.

@jjw6455: Please note that NO book stores will buy back an international edition, purchase with caution.

@OrbInfinite: As it states, it will get used if available. They may be out of used copies. Try Amazon or call the store before purchasing

I actually called the bookstore up about it… Apparently my books are all new books that only the school sells, so I’m going to have to buy the new editions from them… >.>

Is FEH really that bad, especially for someone who is not sure that he wants to even go into an engineering-related field? (like me haha)

A couple comments regarding selling back books. First as an engineer you will not sell back many of your books. Calculus and engineering books are always referred to when trying to understand material in upper classes. I used my freshman calc book through my senior year. Second if I can buy an international book for $50 or a b&n book for $200 and get 50% on the buy back which was the better deal, even if I throw out the international. Finally textbooksrus will buy back internationals. [What’s an International Edition Textbook?](<a href=“Page Not Found (404) - TextbookRush”>International Editions - TextbookRush)

Thanks OSULolz. ISBN numbers Loose-leaf: 9781133904489 Hardbound: 0840068077

I guess I will ask in here, but anybody who has experienced move in day, please feel fee to answer.

Did you bring consumables with you to be taken up to the rooms by the OWLs? Things like your snacks and soda?

Sorry for the possible silly question, but thanks in advance.

@aiminhigh

From Amazon: [Amazon.com: Precalculus: Mathematics for Calculus (9780840068071): James Stewart, Lothar Redlin, Saleem Watson: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Precalculus-Mathematics-Calculus-James-Stewart/dp/0840068077/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344633125&sr=8-1&keywords=0840068077)

Rent–$51
Buy Used–$125 w/ shipping
Buy New–$146 w/ shipping

Current Amazon Buyback price = $82 (amazon giftcard); If that price holds, the “Buy Used” price from Amazon has the highest value @ $43 total cost. Compare that to the Barnes and Noble price (or other places) and see what your best option is.

@gallivanter–Yes, I brought food that the OWLs took up. You just throw everything into a moving cart (as seen here <a href=“The Ohio State University - #MyOhioState”>The Ohio State University - #MyOhioState; ) ; they will take up anything

Thanks OSULolz. I will look into it.But the ISBN number for the Amazon book is different from the one on OSU list.
Also, another question on notebooks. Is it advisable to use notebooks for notetaking or looseleaf papers and folders? Do some professors prefer one over the other?
Thanks

Aiminhigh, the professors don’t care at all. It is just personal preference

@aiminhigh–I double checked, the ISBN for the hardbound book is ISBN-10: 0840068077 on Amazon, the same one you told me.

And yes, OsuMEngineer is correct: note taking is completely up to you. Loose leaf, folders, binders, laptop. Whatever works, you don’t even have to take notes, the professor’s won’t care how you do it…it’s not high school anymore!

for most books try to buy earlier editions. There are typically very few if any changes in content. Our son used a 2nd edition Advanced Calc book in lieu of the 8th edition assigned. The only difference was the numbering of the end of chapter questions and the prof/other students let him photo the new edition questions so he got the assignment correct. Saved huge bucks that way.

OrbInfinite- My son didn’t think FEH was bad and he did not keep any of his books for reference either.

OSULolz, Thanks in advance for your help!

My son is applying to OSU, he likes to get into computers. Both College of Art and Sciences and College of Engineering offers computer related majors, he likes to get into software, not hardware, which college should he get into?

There are so many computer related majors in OSU, I am confused.

Thanks for your time!

lih800–

I would definitely go with CSE (engineering) compared to CIS (arts & science). Engineering will allow for much more opportunity, but may also be a more rigorous course schedule. It would be more beneficial to graduate with an engineering degree

OSULolz,

Thanks a lot for your time to reply.

Hi OSULolz,

So I applied for an OA job and got called back in for a group interview. Did you have to do something like that or did they call you in for a one-on-one? Any advice on what they’re looking for?

@NTT0012: I never did a group interview, but I heard that Summer OA’s did before. I think the key in this is to seem outgoing and fun–don’t just sit there quietly. Try to seem interested and involved in Ohio State and getting to know other students and you should be fine, good luck!

OSULolz-I know you went during quarters, but I was hoping you could help with this question. The academic calendar shows “end of session” dates. Are there 2 sessions in a semester so basically they would have a mid-term exam 1/2 through?

It is hard to believe that the end of their first year looks to be April 30th with that being the last day of exams for the spring semester! That is sooooo early!!

Thanks as always!

Each semester has two sessions. It seems like mostly transition classes are taught in these sessions. Midterm dates depend on the professor but for my degree, having only one midterm is rare. Most of my classes have a midterm every 3-4 weeks during the entire semester. But, I think the end of session date is about halfway

Thanks OsuMEngineer…I don’t have any experience in that area, so your answer is much appreciated
