@laurrodes he does not have many AP’s to transfer over. Realistically this is a $320K (after tax) or roughly 1/2 a million pre-tax which probably will take him 10+ years to earn back after 4+ years in college - hard to digest when he has reasonable offers in CA (Chapman, SCU, LMU) with some scholarship. Just ranting sorry.

@darnwaitlist, just to clarify, DD could easily have graduated in 4 years, and perhaps even 3.5 without overloading. She used her suits very very wisely, taking classes for passion as well as for majors/minors. She also still had plenty of time for Boston’s incredible cultural and historic opportunities and having fun on campus! Just wanted to make sure that I was clear on that with you. It sounds like you are doing some serious due diligence, as you should with such strong alternate choices.

Wow… that Quora article is something else. It’s too bad that it’s not possible for someone to refute her ??? Fact… they are inexplicably incorrect at nearly every turn. DarnWaitList, I’m curious if you mentioned it to the dean…There was a guy on here in 2011 who constantly brought up information from 25 years ago as if it were true. Not sure what kind of ax he had to grind, but this reminds me of him. Other people called him out repeatedly, but he continued to post.

@shoot4moon no did not mention it to Dean. My son thinks the BU name carries more weight than his other options -from a business degree perspective. Any thoughts? Also, he is not jazzed about gap sem as all of his friends will be in college. That’s why I called the school to find out if anything can be done about moving it to Sep sem. If he had got into Sep sem directly to QSB I would have swallowed the hardship with fees. Being across the country is another issue - not like we can drop things and pack bags and be there if needed (not that this will happen). Thanks for taking the time to help me through this.

Have several questions: 1.are there a lot international students in this program every year? 2. Do I have time to learn a new language during the program, for example, Arabic? 3. Can I study abroad again after the program? Will I have time to have all credits and graduate on time? 4. Is it really hard to get a B? I heard someone said it is hard to get good GPA in BU 5. Lastly, I was planning to study for political science, but now I want to major in Business, can I just change my major in CGS?
Sorry for so many questions! Thank you very much!
Do we have a groupme or whatever group chat thing? I won’t have time to go to any open house events (my own mistakes… bought wrong ticket before check the event schedule…) so I’m afraid that I would lose opportunities to make friends…

@THANzz 1. BU has a high international population, there are a lot of international students in every program. 2. It depends on your major and how you choose to take your classes but I don’t see why not. 3. Yes, I will actually be studying abroad again in Syndey, Australia this summer. 4. It depends on what kind of student you are. College is harder than high school and can be an adjustment. I consider myself of average intelligence for BU and I consistently get in the B-A range. 5. yes you can adjust your major whenever you want. You don’t usually make friends at open house. You will make friends at orientation or in the Facebook group. If you are not already, I would join the class of 2022 BU facebook group.

can someone point me to the CGS pathway to school of engineering - or is this not possible?

@darnwaitlist https://www.bu.edu/cgsnow/academics/pathways/

@TomSrOfBoston thanks much!

@laurrodes How can I join the facebook page? My son does not have a facebook account

I got into the CGS London program, but I applied as an undecided with the idea that I’d to rotc. Is it still possible to do rotc in London?

@darnwaitlist Search “Official Boston University Class of 2022” on facebook and join it there!

@bluurrg yes it is! I know someone who was in ROTC and CGS

Can you speak to grade deflation at BU? Hard to get A’s?

@a12l34 depends on the class! There is definitely not any grade deflation in CGS but if you are going into STEM I have heard it exists more there but I am not certain! Personally, I have never experienced it.

Do your professors in CGS grade on a curve? Thank you

@a12l34 not unless everyone does like really really bad on something and they want to raise grades

Posted this on the wrong page but:

My child was accepted but received zero in merit and we do not qualify for aid, though can’t afford the price of BU. If admitted into CGS is merit ever offered? All the other schools offered generous merit, one almost a full ride, but zip from BU, which of course is the first choice!

@momhasquestions Some students apply directly to CGS. Perhaps those who are totally undecided what major they want. Some of them may have superior stats and get merit. If you apply to another program and are offered CGS instead then there would be no merit, pretty much by definition.

I recommend that you contact the BU financial aid office if you have questions about this. There are of course students at CGS who do receive aid. It is based on need and merit as all aid is determined by these factors.
