Ask away- it's UChicago Prospective Students Advisory Committee

readytouff- a non-issue, this is likely the date that it was processed. As long as it shows up in your account you’re probably fine.

As of now, my son’s applicaiton checklist on his Chicago account still shows “Awaiting” for “HS transcript” and “Secondary School Report”. His counselor said that he mailed them out on Oct 25. I am feeling very nervous, for my son, since University of Chicago is his top choice. He also had his interview the past Saturday, and he said it went well. I guess that we can only wait until the end of today to see what instructions that we will receive to complete the application files.

Chicago has received all of my materials, except for my SAT scores. However, i just checked my application status, the “Official Test Scores”'s status is currently indicated as “waived”. What does this imply? Is it a good or bad thing?

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

We have posted a blog post to clarify.

Apologies for any confusion:

Thank you for your answer :D

Question: If I sent additional supplementary materials apart from the required applications, will the admissions committee review them before making final decisions?
ex: additional recommendations, and other papers I sent them.

because they are very important and it presents additional information about me

I’ve seen a lot of questions about applying and things , but I have a more lighthearted question.

How’s the food at University of Chicago? I’ve never been to Chicago and never tried the deepdish pizza? Is the surrounding area nice :)?

Should supplementary recommendations show up in the checklist in addition to teacher rec 1 and teacher rec 2, or should I just assume they received them along with the others?

Hello!
Sorry if this has already been announced elsewhere, but is there a set date yet for admissions decisions to be released for the EA pool? The site says mid-december and rumors are flying left and right.

Thank you!

I have the same question as SarahLiz! :)

It’s usually been around December 15.

Hi, I am a prospective student who’s going to apply RD, I couldn’t make the EA deadline :(. But in any case, I decided to redo my essay that had 5 different prompts to choose from. Now, the last one says I can make my own prompt. But I was wondering, do I need to make a prompt, or can I just free-write about something? Just a curiosity.

Hi Grace!
I’m sorry if someone asked this before: in the supplement, there’s an optional question that says

Does that mean I need to write reviews on the books and music I like, or simply list them?
Thanks!

Hello!

I’m a new member, and I have a quick question about the financial aid review process at UChicago. Do the financial aid reports of all applicants get read, or do only the financial aid reports of accepted students get read? What about deferred students?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I think it’s always best to elaborate a little on your interests. That’s what I did in my application.

I’m not quite sure how to answer your exact question. The important thing to note, though, is that the admissions process and the financial aid process are completely separate, and admissions are need blind, meaning the two offices don’t discuss your financial aid situation.

Also, accepted EA students will receive a financial aid estimate, and all accepted students will receive their financial aid packages around the date of the regular acceptances in April.

I hope that addresses some of your concerns, if not, feel free to ask a clarifying question.

Okay, I think that sufficiently answers my question. Thanks!

Not all applicants ask for FA and admission is not determined by financial need or lack of.

Hm, so what actually happened was I got an email listing some mistakes that were found on my financial aid application. My thought process is as follows: The most efficient solution would be to only calculate financial aid packages for those students who were already accepted. Given that thousands of students apply early action, I find it difficult to believe that the financial aid officers read every financial aid application.

What I assume happens is that the admissions officers “pass on” a list of accepted students to the financial aid office, which then decides on aid packages. Through this reasoning, I arrived at the conclusion that the fact that I got an email about my financial aid package is an indicator that I may possibly have been accepted.

Is this thought process valid? I’d really like some light to be shed on the situation.

Speculate as you will, you’ll know soon enough.
