Ask away- it's UChicago Prospective Students Advisory Committee

You need to remember that what you get from FAFSA or Profile is sort of a preliminary number like a credit rating which should be very easily tabulated (1x10 to the minus 5 seconds for less than 20k total applicants, perhaps?).

I was right :]

OMG OMG OMG I want to get in!!! What do you guys look for specifically in your student body? such as initiative, creativity, or enthusiasm, compassion etc?

Does UChicago really send admitted EA applicants a scarf?

Are the girls on campus hot?

^ no. Squirrels are.

Hi - I was admitted EA, but still applying RD to other schools, including Duke, from which I was deferred ED - I am considering a major in neuroscience, and I know that Chicago’s graduate degree in computational neurosc. is very prestigious but do you guys know any undergrads majoring in neuroscience and what the curriculum and courseload are like? (i.e. reading-heavy, lab-focused)

When are there admitted overnights for EA students? Is there a set schedule or is anytime ok?

4everyoung,

Yep, they did last year. Of course I have no idea what, if anything, they’ll send this year.

Hi. What’s the general political leanings of the University of Chicago? Also, how receptive to political activism would you say the university generally is?

Hi!
We visited Chicago in October, so most likely, we will just send our (overjoyed) daughter to Chicago alone for the overnight accepted student visit. Will there be some sort of transportation provided, or should we plan to have her take a cab from O’Hare? Thanks!

I’d say the U of Chicago is pretty similar in political makeup to its peer universities, broadly liberal. The biggest difference I’ve felt would be a libertarian tilt, especially among the ‘conservatives.’ Where Students for Liberty might be a subset of College Republicans at other schools, at Chicago it’s more like College Republicans is a subset of Students for a Free Society.

From what I’ve seen of my roommate, activism (at least on the left) is not deficient by any means. He’s involved in UC Democrats as well as SOUL (Students Organizing United with Labor); he’s done a few phone banking sessions, something involving Teamster intra-union politics, etc. He’s really big into politics and activism, and he’s seems like he’s pretty happy with it. Oh, and stay away from the Spartacists xD.

Hey everyone!
I recently got accepted EA.
I’m more or less sure I want to go to UChic, but before I decide I have some questions… Can I contact any current student here ? I would preferably like to PM my questions. Thank you.

You can email psac@uchicago.edu, and a current student will answer your questions! This goes for all of you.

Since the websites of the colleges I am interested in just say the application is “due” by January 3, I think I will fax the application in on Monday and make a same day wire transfer payment for the application fee (with the receipt attached to the application). I can’t use the common app submit feature, as it is disabled in my account at this point. Chicago is one such school (I will post this note on their forum to see if there is any objection). For all of you who are worried about mis-spelling on your common app, Chicago’s admissions web site says applications are due on Sunday, January 3. This must be Chicago’s own version of “Find x” –

If I sent my international funding form to the Admissions Office rather than the Aid Office, will it get to the right place eventually?

I applied pretty late, my entire application was sent on midday 12/31 EST, and UChicago only received my application so far, the paper items were sent earlier, b/c I didn’t want to lose out on mailing time.

I can’t find the option to request, or show interest in an alumni interview. The website it would be open until Jan 6 but I can’t find anything.

If you did an on-campus interview then this option won’t be available to you. Otherwise, it might just be too late.

I believe you request an interview through your Chicago Account, but you can email your admissions counselor for more specific information.
