hahahaha no far from it

greek parties are most certainly not the only parties with alcohol to the person who asked that above

and two, yes while it may seem that everyone is out getting wasted every other night, there are a lot of people who are also not doing that. its a kind of to each their own kind of thing. I’m not from california, and my school wasn’t overly large and usc’s social scene was overwhelming for like a week and then u just kinda learn to navigate through it and it ends up being fine. sometimes people have hard times making friends in high school but its funny cuz itll be those people who sometimes end up adjusting the best just cause they don’t go in expecting to make a million friends and then get initially dissapointed. it’s good to just be open minded and have fun. a lot of people drink, its college, its life, but a lot of people don’t.

find out who you are and do it on purpose kinda thing

do you ever see people collide on campus while longboarding/biking/scootering? haha

i just got into long boarding, and im scared to noob it up and hit some one zoomin by on a fixie LOL!

^yes but it doesn’t happen THAT often. it does happen, just watch out, say sorry and move on.

theres a lot of near accidents but few actually happen. you’ve just gotta be alert

ive seen people on bikes crash into eachother, people on longboards crashing into people on bikes, vice versa…

theres a time during the day in which things peak and the campus is really busy. usually it’s during this time that i see people get into accidents. i’ve only seen one bad one… most people just apologize and move on.

ooh. interesting posts.

anyway, i have a question about this whole sorority/fraternity thing 'cause i’m not really familiar with them (from canada; sororities/fraternities aren’t such big things here).

so… what exactly are they? and what are some advantages/disadvantages of joining?

thanks :)

Fraternities and sororities are basically like exclusive social clubs. They’re like mini communities you become a part of in order to meet people, always have people to party with, get involved with and just kind of form a distinctive community outside of the preexisting college one.

Advantages can be: a lot more friends, a place to always party, great connections after graduation, increased social stature, leadership skills and I dunno stuff like that

disadvantages: become a party animal and fail out, limit yourself to only one aspect of what makes college so amazing, become stuckup and develop this im better than you mentality, joining something thatll create a pressure for u to retain a certain image, especially one that doesn’t really align with who you think you are

This is great info

I have a question, are ALL frats/sororities like this? And I mean the partying, rah rah girls, shallowness part. I was thinking about joining one for my major for the connections and getting to know more people, but I just feel like the disadvantages outweigh the advantages of Greek life :/

^ agreed. like, it’s great to have connections and all, but… i’d rather be less popular have nowhere to party and all AND NOT FAIL OUT AND BE MYSELF D:

thats not it at all though. the sorority avg gpa is way higher than the average usc gpa. same with fraternities. yes, you’ll have more options for things to do socially, but that doesn’t mean that forces you to be ■■■■■■■■ and fail out. everyone there got into usc, and is going there, spending a lot of money to get a good education. that comes first and people know it. greeks included.

Yeah you can find A LOT of girls that are not about the shallowness but like other aspects such as connections, long lasting friendships and things like that. At the end of the day it’s all about finding the best balance of everything. They do exist and you shouldn’t settle for any less than where you feel comfortable

Thanks for this thread Fowora, it’s pretty damn informative. I have a friend at SC who’s a freshman in Lambda Chi, and his older brother’s a junior also in the frat. I feel like I really ought to rush Lambda Chi if I’m gonna rush (which I want to), so could you maybe tell me a bit more about it as a neutral. I know about the whole fiasco at Watermelon BUST (or at least I know what the press says about it), but is there anything else I should know?

The dorn bros.

the thing with lambda was sucky for them because they were considered a top house and lost some leeway after that whole scandal. and it also hurt that they were on like probation and stuff for last year so they couldnt really party like other frats did. but to be honest it was so overblown and turns out nothing really went down. lambdas a sick house, if u like the guys there and the vibe than for sure check it out. they deff have their loyal groupies in terms of girls and theyre haters in terms of guys but overall theyre cool. i mean check it out and see for urself and if u like them, try to get a bid

hey man thanks for the information.

i was looking through frats and I was thinking about rushing Sigma Nu or maybe ATO. they seem like the frats on campus with the chillest guys without the whole raging ****** frat guy image. can you tell me a little more about these houses?

Hey thanks again for all your time in answering the questions,

I was wondering about the Phi Delts, i see they just got a brand new house right on the row but i don’t here much about them, are they on the rise or whats the deal with them?

ok so let me break it down like this

ATO: they used to be a top house, but now it’s not even so much like people are saying, “oh they suck now” it’s just that unless your in ATO, you never really hear that much about them. like they’re SUPER low key and i honestly can’t even tell u much about them because a lot of people don’t really know anymore. i do know they have some cool guys though, but that’s kind of it.

Sigma Nu: was always just considered like a regular house. they had a few really sick guys but then other than that they were just kind of your normal average guys in a frat. however, they’ve been throwing more parties, and had a really sick 30h!3 concert last year, so overall a lot of people are beginning to agree that theyre on the rise. i have a friend in there and have been there a couple of times and its been fun. theyre deff stepping their game up if your just looking at where they were and where they are now

yeah phi delts new house is super legit dude. in terms of status though, well they just got back on the row which usually means it’s going to take a long time before they really start getting into their swing and moving up the “row” ladder. but there are some pretty chill guys in it so its not like they suck, its just that even though Phi Delt has been at sc for a while, because they just came back on they feel brand new which means no one really knows them. they’re kind of at a building stage right now. but again the primary thing is just to see if u gel with the guys

So will Lambda Chi’s probation be over next year?
