Mike, when we start school this wednesday, will I be seeing you in the library with any independent study classes?

Choas - very good, maybe tie in the Bark to being KKK and you'll be in good shape.

GIME - ignorance is bliss

indicaclan - sadly I'm not doing any independent study classes in the library this year. My independent study is in M-3.

Mike, I still have 19 days before school starts. I was wondering what to do with that time. I didn't do anything usefull this summer. All I did was sit infront of the TV and got fat (which I'm now working on to reverse). So what should I do in the next 19 days? Any suggestions?

@stuck - Go to wikipedia and research every class that you have. There is no greater benefit that knowing the subject matter, before you are expected to know it in class. Plus, it makes introductory lessons, review so you can get good grades.

Dear Mike,

Will not having a foreign language this year screw me over? Scheduling problems didn't permit it.
What alternatives do you suggest for fitting in that extra fourth?

Yours To-Be-Enlightened-ly,

ChaosTheory.

@choas - Well, lucky for you, the school you are in has block scheduling - right? If that is the case you will be able to take 2 full year courses of a language, and be back on track.

Yes, true, but that takes a bite out of my math or science :o In 10th grade, possibly math, but never science because I wouldn't be that ahead to begin with. Perhaps two or so classes, w/e. Should I waste my time self-studying APUSH or French? I'd assume the latter...

Dear Mike,
Just a random question -
What are the mathematics courses beyond Differential Equations? Not beyond, but in "order." Number Theory, Logic perhaps? What else?

okay guys I only have like a minute to talk but I have to say this thread is absolutely dreadful, just dreadful

Well, Choas, I think you are far enough in math, to put a language in there...

Beyond DiffeQ there is Math Analysis, and them geometry and then topology, or somthing like that. Logic, Number Theo and that stuff is jsut electives you cant ake whenever. Number theory is mad fun though.

Chaos... '-_-

Thank you for the advice. I will look into taking Number Theory, as I enjoy it as well, as a recreational math. :)

Topology, differential geometry, fourier analysis --all depends on your interest and opportunities ;-)

Check this out e.g. http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Mathematics/index.htm

^ Wow, thats amazing! Looks like I have a lot to look forward too! :)

what exactly is number theory? me only in lowly calc ab

I'm not sure exactly but I think it's stuff like Fibonacci numbers and (!!!) Golden ratio.

And finding the units digits of 27 to the power of 27 factorial.

Tons of fun stuff
fibonaci numbers
golden ratio
fermats last theorum
number systems
graph theory
golden angle
prime numbers (factorization
Euclidean algorythm
diophantine equations (absurd solutions)
MODULO NUMBERS!!!!
Perhaps ZmodnZ is a ring?
chinese remainer theorem
Gregorian calendar
Mod tables (addition and Multiplication) <- best part of number theory
cyprtography using prime numbers
primitive roots
quadratic residues
divisibility
Gaussian integers (yeah complex numbers)
continued fractions
pell equations
proving axioms (yeah I know its a contradiction)

that kind of stuff
so much FUN!

WOOSH, over my head. although i do like math...maybe if i have time in college

Its all below calculus and mostly just algebra II stuff.

but the terminology is foreign.

pretzel rod or pretzel twist?
