No, the classes operate on "Berkeley time" that includes a margin, even though it doesn't show up on paper. You should be able to get from class A to class B in spite of the zero minute gap.

Just don't try scheduling Morgan to Haas or the like back to back. You won't make it on time.

Thank you much.

Hey I was looking at the classes I need to take next year and I was wondering if its smart to schedule them back to back. Some of mine are in the same area (evans, leconte), but I still didn't know if it's okay to do that, since I obviously don't want to be late for a class. What would you guys recommend? Thanks!

okay sorry I just realized that my question was already answered. Nevermind!

Hi. Has anyone ever enrolled in 20 units in a semester. Is this doable?

I applied as an English major, but since we're all admitted as undeclared is it possible to declare to a different major? i'm thinking biology...

i just realized that since I only have one pre-req completed anyway, and I really hate english, i may as well ask...

thanks =]

Are the classes challenging, how many hours would an average Haas or Cal students spend studying?

I would like to transfer from Santa Monica College
Majors- Business and Poli Sci
gpa-4.0
Activities-many clubs
Internship at City National Bank(risk management)
Essay-I would write about first-hand experience with risk management
also me working since high school in my uncle phone company.

I am sophomore, transferring as junior
Any improvement I need to make?
Any suggestions you can give me?
Thank you

chumphree: Yes, you can easily declare any major in L&S as long as you take the prerequisites.

I'm not sure why they say they don't take choice of major into consideration when they admit you - why else would they ask? It's utterly useless to choose a major prior to taking classes in L&S for all but a select few majors (those that restrict enrollment in their prereqs to "pre-majors").

Explore away!

Hey all,

I have some questions which I hope you guys will be able to help with (:

I note that on the school calendar Aug 21st is marked as the date where Semester begins, but actual instruction only starts on Aug 27th. Does anyone know what's going on between those two dates (as I need to plan ahead of time)?

For accommodation, approximately when will we be able to move in? I found information stating that we won't be able to move in before the designated "move-in" date, but there wasn't really an indication as to when that date could be.

Also, when we plan our schedules using Telebears, is it only for first semester or will we also have the option of selecting our courses for second semester? And, will telebears show us which courses are semester and which are year-long? I tried finding this information at the online course scheduler but a lot of them did not state the length of the courses...

Thanks :)

Move in day for Frosh is Aug 24, except for triples residents who are allowed in on the 23rd.

Telebears registration is for the upcoming semester only, not for both.

No course is a year long. Math 1A and Math 1B are two distinct classes that you might think of as a year of Calculus, but there is not a class code where you register for an entire year.

There is a 'welcome week' with activities between move-in and start of classes. The activities will be announced in August. It is not a full week, as you can tell from the dates.

Hellooooo anyone?

"Move in day for Frosh is Aug 24, except for triples residents who are allowed in on the 23rd. "

really? where does it say that? i remember reading on the cal housing site thing that they said you can move in the 23rd, then i read somewhere else it was the 24th... so i was confused

gokitty4 - I believe they always do it like that. That's how they did it for Fall '07, at least.

Start with this page to learn about this year's move-in:

cerealbox1: No one's ignoring you, it's just that the question you asked is highly personal and not really appropriate to the spirit of the thread -- and not something that can be definitively answered within a couple of posts.

Try posting your own thread in the Berkeley sub-forum. You'll get more responses that way. :)

thanks rider.
i looked at that site before, but they didnt have that "residence hall move in day 2008" thing.

Ok so it is really not a good idea to schedule classes back to back that are across campus? I have one day a week where I have to go from Tolman to Kroeber...I just figured if I busted it out, I could do it...but is it just physically impossible (without straight up running)?

Am I just failing miserably at using the online schedule, or are a lot of classes only offered at 1 time by 1 instructor? Out of my possible list of classes I am looking to take first semester(transfer) of Econ 100A, EnvEcon 140AC, IAS 45, PEIS 100, PEIS 101, Spanish 2, and Pol Sci 2, only 1 of them had 2 teachers/times, the rest were at 1 time by 1 teacher.

Hopefully I'm just not doing it right, because if not, that's severely limiting in my ability to customize my schedule.

Edit: To the person above me, someone earlier had said that even classes which appear to end and start at the same time (IE: one ends at 3, next starts at 3) actually have 10 minute passing periods. I'm not sure how far away it actually is, but here's a map you can look at showing the two buildings:
Standard campus map - UC Berkeley

Thanks Josh377...I actually already know about Berkeley time and have the campus map...I just need to know if it is possible in 10 minutes to get across campus?
