So apparently the housing deadline was yesterday. I didn’t know about it until today so I didn’t accept my offer. How screwed am I?

Hello!
I am transferring to Cal this fall!
In my transferring app I wrote it like

Channing Bowditch double room in apartment

Channing Bowditch single room in apartment

Unit 2 double room in Wada apartment

Unit 2 triple room in Wada apartment

any room any loc
My first question is; how is my chances?
The second question; I want to be placed in a dorm where it is less social and quite. Where would you recommend?

I am in the same boat and screwed, just checked cal-mail (only checked my regular email before) and realized I had missed the deadline. I sent them an email last night asking if they had any spaces left and if I could do anything. Let’s hope for the best

This is a sort of random question, but how long is Thanksgiving break for Berkeley? Is it an entire week long or only two days? And if it is only two days, how bad would it be to miss that Wednesday before Thanksgiving?

Hello Everyone!
I am a freshmen this fall and an EECS major.
I am wondering if it is a good idea for freshmen to take a EE 20N course in first semester. I’ll be taking a Math 53, R5A and an AC course along with it. CS 61A is out of option because it is already full. (OMG) I have a solid background in Mathematics but I haven’t been able to even interact with Math 54 which is supposedly very helpful in EE 20.

Does anybody have an advice for me??

@lol7777

Actually, they added more spots for CS61A plus a waitlist.

btw, I’m an EECS major too (though I’m starting off with Math 1B instead of skipping it even though I got a 5 in Calculus BC)

:D

Hello, I am transferring to Cal in the fall as an MCB major and I was wondering what is a decent course load to take my first semester? I figured I should take MCB 102 first since its the prerequisites for a lot of other classes, but how bout with MCB 55 (plagues and pandemics) along with MCB C62 (drugs and the brain)? Would that be too much? If so, what do you propose?

If you just google “berkeley academic calendar,” you’ll be able to see when all of the breaks are. It’s going to be November 22-23 this year, but really you have until the 25th, as the 25th is a Sunday. As for missing classes on Wednesday, check to see if your classes require attendance. If not, it’s not too bad to miss class that one day, as many professors offer notes online. If not, make friends and ask them for notes, maybe.

I am not an EECS major, but I have heard that getting exposure to Linear Algebra does help with EE 20N. If your schedule allows it, maybe you should take Math 54 first? You don’t need Math 53 to take 54, as they have very little overlap. If not, maybe just read up a little on Math 54 stuff? Much of it has to do with matrices and vectors. If you don’t know where to start, I would go look up the websites of Math 54 or EE 20N GSI’s. They usually have some material and cheat sheets you can start looking at to get a feel for the material.

I didn’t want to start a thread so I am asking this here. Is one competitive at all for transfer to any of the UCs if one does not complete 2 college English courses?
I’ll be applying to Berkeley, UCLA, and UCSB.

Hi, I just had a quick question for Molecular & Cellular Biology majors. Is multivariable calculus a required course for you guys?

Hello guys, I’m wondering if there is anyone who has taken classes with conflicting exam schedules before? Do professors usually let you take the exam at a different time?

@Eagle: Yes and no. It depends on the professor. Email him/her to ask. Mostly no, though, because you are obviously prewarned of the problem and the onus is on you to avoid it.

MCB requires Math 1A-1B or 10A-10B. Neither includes multivariable calculus, which is in Math 53. (You may want to ask the department directly if you wish to skip 1A-1B with AP BC, IB HL, or A-level credit and go directly to 53.)

Anyone from the South East on this thread? I was wondering if it is a big change to go to california for school?

Also, is it true that White people are a minority at Berkeley? not a problem, i am just curious

Yes, Caucasians are a minority. Asians are the plurality. It’s around 40% Asians and 30% Caucasians.

I am a freshman and i will complete all breath and AC courses this fall semester. i have completed 11 AP (score of 5) and 5 college classes at the high school. I am taking math 1B, econ 1, ESPM 50AC, PH 116 and physic 7c currently to fulfill Haas and econ requirements. What courses do you recommend to take in coming spring semester
- Stat 20 or 21 (Haas and econ req)
- Econ 100A (so that you can claim econ major and proceed other upper div courses) (do i have a chance to get this upper division course - i have a Regent priority enrollment)
- UGBA 10 (Haas req)
- What else? lower division to get better grade or
- jump into upper div classes but i am afraid i wont be able to get in because of a freshman status

I am a biotechnology student ,currently in my 3rd year of bachelors in India. I am looking for internships in US universities. My GPA is not that great due to some personal issues that cropped up during exams ,so I failed a few exams in college but I have potential to do research and I love science. I am currently working on a research project in India and my report is due in November. I would like to do a summer research internship in the US or UK in May-June, for 2 months. Please give me some information on this.

I’m currently a junior in high school, St.Petersburg, Florida and I’m highly interested in Cal-Berkeley. I was in the CAT program as a freshman but left due to some athletic issues with the schools coach. I’m looking to major in Marketing/Finance area and understand that Cal is very science based. I’m a stellar athlete, I can do manage doing work and playing collegiate sports, especially at Cal. My GPA doesn’t reflect my intellect but as we all know, athletes have a bit of an edge when it comes to getting into college. I’m already being recruited by Cal but I want to interact with a student who’s already at Cal.
- How’s their marketing classes?
- What’s the city/community like?
- Is Cal a “party scene” ?
- What are the dorms like?

Looking for useful feedback, thanks.

Re: #1859

Freshmen who are interested in the business major need to take the prerequisite courses and then apply to the business major for entry in junior year. This involves a competitive admission process.

Will you be getting an athletic scholarship? Berkeley is very expensive for out-of-state students otherwise.
