Hello prospectives!
I am currently an Elon student and an honors fellow and I used CC as a way to analyze the schools I was applying to, so I figured I would offer some help in return. If you sports people have any questions about the fellows program, housing, academics, atmosphere, or just Elon in general, let me know!
PS: Sports people (not a typo) is my way of saying you guys without “guys”
MODERATOR’S NOTE: Anyone is free to ask or answer questions in this thread. It’s not the place, however, to ask for chances.
Hello! Could you please share your stats?
@senioritisIs Yeah! I had a 5.1 weighted GPA, 3.9 unweighted GPA, a 1410 on the SAT, and a 33 on the ACT (I only sent in ACT).
Yeah, I’m working on my essay right now! Thanks for your insight! When were you invited to fellows weekend and what was it like?
@chileanjesus
What is your major? What other universities did you consider before choosing Elon, or was this your first choice?
@chileanjesus Do you feel isolated in a small town, or is there enough to do on campus? Do most people have cars there?
@blackbird881 my major is Human Service Studies, but I have been bouncing around and have quite a few minors including Poverty and Social Justice, Communications, Latin American studies, and entrepreneurship. I think this is where ill end up in terms of academics. As for other schools, I was also looking at Claremont Mckenna as a first choice which I did not get into. Hamilton, Franklin and Marshall, Occidental, UNC and Kenyon where my other options when deciding where to go.
@3mamagirls I don’t feel isolated because there are so many events and speakers hosted by the school daily that I love. There are also tons of clubs to get involved in. A lot of people do have cars, including me. I brought mine because I live an hour away in raleigh so it helps with commuting over breaks. I have gone into greensboro a couple times, but I spend most of my time on campus. At times it feels a little isolated, but it is easy to stay busy.
Could you tell us about the Honors Fellows? What special courses are there and what did you think of them? Did you do the living learning community and what do you know about that? How many Fellows are there and do you do any social activities as a group? Are there a lot of Fellows per class? Is there also a separate Honors program at Elon?
What sort of events are hosted? My D is also interest in a sorority, but don’t want that to be the only social activity. Do a lot of people know each other already when they come to the school - will it be hard for people from OOS?
The vast majority of students are from out of state. My student has been exceptionally busy without regard to Greek life.
@fritobandito
The honors program is wonderful! You take your global class (a first year core requirement) with half of your 40 person cohort and then you take one honors class per semester through sophomore year. so 4 all together. The first one was great and I’m looking forward to my one next semester. you can find the descriptions of the classes on the honors page on the elon website. I chose to live on the honors floor LLC instead of the Kenan Pavilion and am very happy with that choice. It has given me a really good community of other fellows but also has not felt isolating as it is in a regular residence hall in Nades. As an honors cohort we have events built into the year and then just end up going to a lot of the same social functions because we have all become friends through living on the floor. I would not be at elon without the fellows not least because of the scholarship that comes with it, but also because it is a truly rigorous and accepting community.
@3mamagirls
It definitely won’t be hard to make friends! Most people are coming from out of state so she will be able to connect with a lot of the other incoming first years over that shared experience. As for social activities, our Student Union Board is great at putting on large scale events every month for the whole school. And then as long as you are on the lookout, there are different things to go to every weekend that are put on by various clubs and organizations.
What is there to do outside of campus and locally during the weekends? Besides traveling to Raleigh and Charlotte, I mean, since I won’t have a car on campus.
How do you get your id to get on on track to check your status?
After becoming a pledge in a sorority, do all sororities at Elon have a sober semester (no partying or drinking from bid day to initiation), or is it only the top tier sororities?
Hi! I was selected to interview at the Fellows weekend for the Honors program and was told that notifications would be out on April 1st. I thought that my financial aid package would not come until then, but I just got it in the mail. Is this a bad sign or did I just hear something incorrectly? Will my financial aid be amended if I do get in or is this just a hint that I didn’t make it?
