How many classes do you suggest taking first semester? 4 or 5?

@Kai93096 Not sure I understand the question, appeal policy for what?

@Ch1746 I would recommend 12-13 credit hours your first semester. For freshmen this will usually split up as being 4 3 credit hour classes, or 1 4 credit hour class and 3 3 credit hour classes.

It can tempting to load up with 15+ credits your first semester, but it can also be hard adjusting to a college level course load along with getting adjusting to living at MSU.

Is it possible to gain direct admission to Eli Broad as a freshman applicant, or would students have to wait until they’re near junior standing to apply?

You have to have 56 credits (Junior status) to be able eligible for admissions to the Broad College, so you would apply as a sophomore.

@TheSpartan I am not a student at MSU but am planning on going to football games. Can i buy a student section ticket on stub hub or do they scan your student ID at the gate? Any tips on how to get into the student section?

They scan your ID at the gate so you would have to borrow the person you’re buying from’s ID but depending on who is doing the scanning sometimes they barely look and you can get in even if you barely look like the person on the ID. They give students a colored wristband to determine their “section” within the student section so it can be pretty hard to get in without a student ticket.

This has been on the website for three weeks: Your application to Michigan State University has been received. Please ensure that your high school transcripts and official ACT or SAT scores, with writing, are sent to MSU. Once all material has been received and processed, an initial decision will be rendered within 12 weeks.

My final document (transcript) was received on Aug. 19th, so everything is in. Will my status stay the same until a decision is made? Or will it change when they process my application?

Thanks!

This is the message I got on Weds. about my application ststus:

The Office of Admissions has reviewed your application for spring 2016. Although your record suggests the potential for success at Michigan State University, it appears that you are in the process of completing required coursework to be admitted to MSU.

You MUST update your academic record by submitting grades for any completed courses and inform our office of any courses currently in progress. All previous grades and current courses from U.S.-based institutions MUST be submitted via your online student portal. Paper transcripts must be submitted to our office for any international institution in order to update your academic record.

We cannot render a final decision on your application until one of the above actions has been completed.

Is the good or bad sign of as a transfer student?

I think it’s more good than bad. They’re saying that if you complete the required courses, you’re in! Of course, you have to pass them and do fairly well. My cousin was a transfer and he received this same message, completed the required math credit, and now holds a BBA from MSU!

Essentially, you just need to do well in the required courses.

Semi-congrats!

PS, I could 100% be wrong! Obviously my only experience with MSU is applying and my cousin, and there are many more out there who are much more knowledgeable about this.

oh ok. Thanks for chiming in! I hope it’s a good sign because I did tell them on my application that I’m taking fall classes right now and my final grades won’t be available til December. Also, when i checked my portal today, I noticed there was a “classification fee: instate”. I wonder what this means as well.

@TheSpartan My daughter just submitted her application over the weekend, then the AP Award arrived yesterday. Does she still has chance to add that into her application? We assume the PSAT award will be arriving soon, and she should receive something from there as well. Thank you very much for your advice in advance!

@Truepassion I can’t remember if you can edit an application after it has been submitted, but if not I would call admissions and they should be able to add it to her file.

What do you think. Is this a good or bad thing?

Does this usually lead to being accepted if you get this message?

@TheSpartan are you familar about this message when transfer applicants receive this?

Also I noticed “fee classification: instate” added under my personal info. I’ve never seen that before until last week so I’m wondering if that has something to do with acceptance?

@Myl171993 I think it means they won’t make a decision until you finish whatever classes are required to get in, but once you send your transcript in for this semester you will probably get in.

I wouldn’t read anything into the fee classification thing.

@TheSpartan can you answer my question? It’s been up for a long time, so I’m concerned I’m missing something, but it says all documents are in and I haven’t received a message from MSU telling me anything.

Here’s the question so you don’t have to look for it:

Thanks!

@woah16 For me the status stayed the same until they made a decision, so I would just sit tight for now until the 12 weeks has passed.

Thank you @TheSpartan !!

@TheSpartan can you tell me if I have a chance at MSU?

Few teachers have read my essay and they think it is phenomenal. I plan to take the SAT again. I have been involved with mens volleyball my freshman and sophomore year. I ran track my junior year. I job shadowed at a Civil Engineering firm my junior year. I did marching band my freshman and sophomore year. I work a part time job since junior year. I volunteered my freshman and sophomore year. I helped fundraise for the band my freshman and sophomore year. I participated in Relay For Life and helped with the Unified for Uganda.

Do I have a sizable chance of being admitted? I live in Ohio. My high school doesn’t rank. I’m Caucasian

@TheSpartan do you think I could get in if I raise my GPA my senior year?
