How important is it to submit mid-year report for transfer students?

Any advice for students on the waitlist?

Hi @getmeoutofjc,

While the mid-year reports are not necessary for transfer students, it keeps the admission counselors updated on your progress throughout the year and are highly recommended by the counselors.

Hi @LindsayRB,

I found this great link online that should help you out: https://www.ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– /ivywise-knowledgebase/newsletter/article/wait-and-see-tips-for-getting-off-the-waitlist/

We just declined the offer of admission (EA). Loved SCU for years and weā€™ve spent a lot of time there (including the Vigil Mass at the Mission Church last night - not to be missed if youā€™re Catholic and at SCU!), but with NMF, SCUā€™s merit was by far the lowest of any school by a substantial amount, and it wasnā€™t remotely practical, especially given that heā€™s got options that heā€™s just as happy about.

Iā€™m hopeful and happily wishing that this means that someone for whom SCU is a dream school will be able to attend. It is a terrific place, and all my best to those attending, and fingers crossed for those waiting!

Hi, my daughter and husband are heading to Santa Clara on Sunday afternoon and touring SCU on Monday. My daughter is pretty actively involved in our youth ministry / LifeTeen program at our Catholic parish and was interested in attending Mass on Sunday - we noticed there is a 6pm or 9pm Mass. Not sure if you could answer this question or know someone who could, but is there a better Mass choice or opportunity on Sunday to see this aspect of the campus/SCU community? Thanks. Love any restaurant ideas for them too to get a feel for nearby campus life.

what is SCUā€™s rescind policy? I canā€™t seem to find it anywhere

ll try to keep this to short and to the point-I was accepted to SCU and have committed.
My major is in BS Sociology in the College of Arts and Sciences. However, the one problem is that Iā€™m unsure whether I can potentially get rescinded because of the following:

  1. On my application, I told them I would make up/take a semester of Chem Honors, and I didn't. BUT I emailed admissions and I told them about my situation, and they seemingly let it go because I explained that I have been participating and devoting more time to extracurriculars, especially my work with people with special needs (that has to do with my major).
  2. My grades are pretty bad this semester compared to last semester when I sent in the mid-year report. As in, I'm taking 3 APs and 2 regular classes (but one is like a "honors" class at my school and is a lab science) and I'm a TA for another class....so in total, I may have 3 As, 1 B, and potentially 2 Cs. One of the Cs is pretty low and has a small chance of dropping to a D.....but my teacher apparently will give me a C even if I tank the final since my grade has stayed at this letter grade for a while this semester.

If anybody has had similar experiences or knows how often/when SCU tends to rescind students, please let me know.

Thank you so much!

Hi @TheFalseHuman & @scuclassof2020

SCU does reserve the right to rescind an offer of acceptance, based on performance post mid-year report. The best way to avoid an offer getting rescinded is to stay in contact with your specific SCU counselor, and just keep them updated on whatā€™s going on with you in school. You can find your counselor here: https://www.scu.edu/admission/undergraduate/contact-us/find-your-counselor/

I was admitted (freshmen), and I have a question about housing. Iā€™m filling out the housing form, but I canā€™t decide between the 4 dorm halls of Swig, Campisi, San filippo, and Walsh Hall. I just donā€™t really know anything about them, besides each one of their themes. Can you explain what are the differences between the four dorm halls? Thanks!

Hi @Lisabelle20,

All four of these Residential Learning Communities (RLCs) are of traditional style, meaning that most of the rooms have two people sharing one room, with common lounges and bathrooms in shared spaces. They also only house sophomores and first years, to encourage community building. Swig is one of the larger RLCs on campus, and from personal experience, is known for being on the social side, however Iā€™ve had friends tell me that it can be difficult to get homework done in their rooms for this reason. Most people mediate this by finding quiet spaces in the library or other buildings to get work done. Campisi and Sanfilippo both have the same building format and share a quad together, so these buildings are tight knight and often collaborate on events. While these two buildings are in a different area of campus compared to the other sophomore/first-year housing arrangements, youā€™ll find that community is huge part of their way of life, and youā€™ll be able to find people around you with similar interests very easily. I actually lived in McLaughlin-Walsh last year, and I found it was a great mix of both of these styles. The traditional style made it easy to make friends, the theme allowed there to be diverse and interesting people in every room, and there are spaces dedicated to getting work done.

While the theme of an RLC does play a role in how the community is setup, I would not say it defined my first year experience. What did play a larger role was finding people with similar interests and being able to spend time with them in our living areas. If you see a theme that sticks out to you, I would say go with it! No matter which building you end up in, you are going to be able to find people who are passionate about the same things you are.

@vschuSCU Thank you so much for your input! I really appreciate it!!

I plan to go back for a Post-Bacc degree in Computer Science. Since this will be my seconds Bachelorā€™s degree I wonā€™t receive any grants. Since tuition is 47k for the upcoming year, Iā€™ll be spending nearly 130k by the time I finish my degree (2.5 years estimate). What financial options do I have besides loans?

Hi @integtypeR,

Iā€™m not the most knowledgeable on financial aid, so Iā€™m going to redirect you to the Universityā€™s financial aid office. Their phone number is 1-408-551-1000, or you can email them at onestop@scu.edu with questions.

Looking at the Graduate Student Financial Aid page, they also say that the financial aid office does not handle graduate school scholarships, grants, or fellowships, but that you should contact your graduate school directly. More information here: https://www.scu.edu/financialaid/apply-for-aid/graduate-students/

Hi Veronica, Iā€™m interested in applying to Leavy at SCU. However, my test scores arenā€™t on par with SCU. I have horrible test anxiety and I donā€™t do good with them :(. Is there anything I can do to get in?
P.S. My gpa is the same as SCUā€™s average high school gpa and I am involved in a lot of school clubs, honor societies, and I have a lot of volunteer and service hours.

Thank you!

Hi @salty.sath.2017 ,

While there is no sure-fire way to get into any university, I definitely recommend connecting with your admissions counselor either by phone or email to get more information regarding the application and acceptance process. You can find out who your specific counselor is either by calling the Office of Undergraduate Admission at 4085544700, or sending an email to admission@scu.edu.

Good luck!

Hi! Iā€™m trying to find out whether Santa Claraā€™s menā€™s track team includes sprinters, as I am only seeing middle distance and up when searching recent results and the roster. Thanks!
