Ask Questions about Vassar Here!

Hi
I am not sure whether this question is asked before but I heard that there are a lot more guys than girls and a lot of gay people on campus. I am not against homosexuels in any way or anything. But since I am a girl, thought I should know more about the guys and girls situations before applying. I am looking for a solid relationship and not “flings”. Is it possible?
I don’t like too much drinking and drugs also.
Thank you for your time! I really appreciate it!

Also, does Vassar have an internatinal studies or international relations major?

Yes, there is an International Studies concentration offered at Vassar.

Are you sure you want to apply to Vassar? I recommend that you do a lot more homework before applying anywhere. How could you ask such a question? Don’t you know anything about Vassar’s history? The gender demographics are the exact reverse of what you seem to think.

Can you tell me anything about the theater department (both musical theater and drama) at Vassar? If you’re not a theater major is it difficult to get into classes/auditions? Are there playwriting and directing classes as well as acting?

Are you familiar with any Pre-Veterinary students at Vassar?
Opinions on internships (especially in NYC) for class credits?

Hi
I was wondering if someone could explain to me why vassar doesn’t have a dance major and the advantages and disadvantages to that. The dance department at vassar seems very strong and performing arts at vassar seems great. I have been dancing for a really long time and I am thinking about majoring in dance or at least minoring, so I was just curious why vassar doesn’t have either a dance major or minor!

Thanks!

I read on the Fiske Guide to colleges that Vassar’s exams are on the ‘honor system’ as an addition to its lax and liberal teachings. Can anyone explain this to me?

decisions are out, and cant find the email vassar sent with the login link can someone please help me by giving me the link?

It means that they aren’t rigorously proctored - the professor typically will hand out an exam, and then leave the room to go do something else, not just sit there and watch to make sure no one is cheating. They may come back in periodically to make sure there aren’t any questions. Other times, exams are take home or “self proctored” and students are expected to take the amount of time allotted and not use any other resources.

My guess is that this has to do with academic rigor. The dance program is wonderful, and students i know who were involved loved it. But just as Vassar students cannot major in Pottery or Filmmaking or Acting, they cannot major in dance. To broaden this more generally - vassar does not focus on vocational programs: there is no business major.

“Are you familiar with any Pre-Veterinary students at Vassar?

I know of a couple of pre-vet students who have since been to vet school. Just like pre-med, it’s not a major, it’s simply a number of courses that vet schools want students to have taken before applying.

Any internship can be done for credit, and it is very very common for students to do this - it’s called “field work.” the field work office is very supportive, and has a collection of placements that students have worked at in the past. They are good at arranging interviews and assisting with transportation. I’m not really sure why you would want to do vet related internships in NYC. There is plenty to do around vassar relating to animals - probably far more than would be available in NYC. But NYC is always possible for fieldwork, and a few students do it every semester.

Hi! I was wondering if you know anything about science at Vassar. How do the Vassar programs compare to other top LACs? What resources are available for science majors? Do science majors go to top graduate schools after Vassar? Thanks!

Can any one tell me about the Psych department at Vassar? I think I’m gonna major in Psych, so this is a big factor is whether I decide to attend…

im not sure if anyone already asked this, but… do current students recommend a bike for transportation on campus? if so what kind (mountain…idk other kinds haha lol)

thanks in advance

oh and good for the weather also…

Accepted student looking seriously at Vassar - some Qs for anyone willing to answer :)

I read on some thread in this forum that theft of personal belongings is rampant at Vassar. I know theft can happen at pretty much any college you go to, especially if you leave your door open, but… I was wondering if this prevalence at all spoke to the personalities of students on campus, or if it’s just a few bad apples doing it. Or maybe theft isn’t that bad and I’m overthinking it, haha.

How good is heating at Vassar during the winter months? Is it common for the dorms and the insides of buildings to get cold?

I’ve read some stuff about (possibly catty) gossip being a pastime for students. That’s another trait that wouldn’t be unique to Vassar, but is the community really like high school in that sense?

Thanks so much to anyone who responds to my craziness. Go Brewers!
