Ask vicissitudes: Spring Admits (FAQ included)

Now that the AP scores are out, how do you drop/add classes? Just send them an email? And where do you find out your schedule?

ditto i would also like to know how to find out my schedule (i.e., if i got the schedule i wanted, or if some of my first choice breadths were full and had to be switched to second or third fourth choices...and if they were changed, then what time/day discussions&lectures i now have)

Well, I checked the website, and it looks like you have to "contact them" to apply. Maybe the phone number / online form will be more useful? Or you can wait until July 15th and then try.

Honestly, I don't know. If the essay question is theme-specific, then you probably have to apply more than once, but if it's generic, then maybe you only have to check all the boxes that apply.

Every year they scramble until maybe a couple of weeks before school starts over schedules. You could email them now and they'll probably change it for you (chances are, they haven't even started working on your schedule yet). What I do know for sure is that you can add and drop classes a few weeks after classes start, so you have plenty of time to get that straightened out. In fact, I think a week before school starts, they email you your final schedule and ask if you want to change anything.

I thought spring housing for spring admits is guaranteed.

can someone verify this?

if you get a dorm in the fall, are you guaranteed that dorm for spring?

^^^^^ yes

has anyone taken de souza for math 16a? if so, how is he? i think i'll be switching out of stats to math 16a.

i sent in my theme housing app today morning (very late i know), when should i expect to hear back, and should i have recieved a confirmation email? (oh and is there any way i check the status on myberkeleyapp?)

Yeah your contract lasts for a whole year.

Is he teaching at FPF? I've never heard of him before.

They would probably send in a confirmation email, but they might take a while to get back to you. Umm..I don't think there's a way to check the status on myberkeleyapp.

ahh sorry if this is a stupid question. i know we're suppose to send our ap scores to the fpf program as well so they can process our schedules for the r1b course but how do we proceed? the scores are up on the berkeley site, but am i suppose to fax it when i receive my scores by mail?

if we dont get in dorms for fall, do we have to reapply for spring dorming?

Nah it's not a stupid question. Remember the AP Scores report you received from collegeboard? Take that and either fax it or make a copy and mail it to FPF. Here's the number and address:

http://www.unex.berkeley.edu/fpf/scores.html

You don't have to, but if you want a dorm in the spring, you could.

housing for spring admitted people is such a hassle

Yeah...it's kinda funny how much we've gone over housing in this thread before offers are even given out. Usually what happens is people relax until July, find out they didn't get an offer and freak out, go complain at CalSO. Hopefully Berkeley will be able to construct more housing in the near future, given that more students are attending every year. I can't imagine where they would build it though...

vicvissitudes i know you probably answer this question a hundred times but

what would you recommend to the students that didn't get housing and are trying to live on campus/or in berkeley? is there a waitlist, a phone number to complain or anything?

right now i regret choosing uc berkeley over ucsd or uci. i didnt expect this to be so difficult.

^ i'm sure even if you did complain they probably wouldn't do much......because they probably get a lot of those calls everyday. you should start looking at co-ops...apartments...etc. craigslist is your friend :D

where can i look for co-ops at? it's not too late to apply?

my lottery number is 77. are my chances good?

i think they give 150 spots so yes 77 is very good

im confused. since im 77 does it mean im the 77th person to get picked for dorms?
