Ask vicissitudes: Spring Admits (FAQ included)

ya I think that's exactly what it means. I thought if your at 270 or something, that's the cut off. My friend is 272, so she's looking at alternatives. Damn, I wanted to get in for Spring to give me a chance to breathe, now seeing all this hassle, I'm kind of glad. Be optimistic, you got a REALLY good lottery number!

anyone receieved any housing contracts yet?

yeah, did anyone receive a housing contract yet?
post if you did...i wanna know when the first ones were sent out

i just got my housing offer
whew what a relief

d=] what number were you?

I just received an offer for a "Triple room in a suite." That means a regular triple, right? Btw, my lottery number was 57.

i got offered Bowles. it's an all male dorm... lol

anyone knows if we are allowed to bring females in?

And I got offered stern........all female...
Is is worth a try to exchange the dorm with someone in the units?
cuz stern seems really far from the FPF building...and there're not many freshmans, are there?

i got offered triple in clark kerr
..better than nothing.

how far is bowles and fall extensions?? the walk looks like its gonna taking an 30 mins to an hour.

What are the suites like and how many freshman usually get them?

so since i did not recieve a housing contract yet, does this mean i'm unlikely to get one at all (meaning they wont even send me an email)? On one of the emails i did recieve, it said they sent out approx 350 housing contracts to FPF, but on another it said that there would be contract cancellations throughout August and that some might get a contract offering then (but they recommended lottery numbers 150 and up seriously consider other options) Anyone in the same situation? My lottery number is 355 so i dunno whether i can still hold out any hope that i might get a late contract for the dorms in August. (or do they send out 350 housing contracts with the assumption that there would be cancellations and so are not offering any more?)
And are cal-rentals or co-ops filling up fast? If anyone is looking for an apt roomate, PM me please.

Umm, no, that means a triple in a suite. You're still in a room with two other people, but the rooms are in a suite-style instead of a hallway style. So you won't be sharing a bathroom with the whole hall but you'll share it with maybe 3, 4 other rooms that are enclosed in a "suite". A floor might have several suites. You can't get into other suites (it's locked) so it's not as social as hallway style, but on the other hand people tend to get pretty close to their suitemates...or get into bitter fights with, I've heard both. Overall it's not that different.

I think it's worth trying to exchange for a unit, but the main thing is being able to get in. It's mostly all freshmen, just like other dorms.

I'm not gonna lie...it's pretty far. Walking might take 30-40 minutes. There's a bus you can take though. After your first semester is over it'll get better.

Well, that means you didn't get an offer initially. More spots DO open up every year but it might be around...20 - 100 spots (rough guess). So usually if you don't get a spot, start looking for other options.

how far is unit 1 and fall extension?
and is this bus free, and if not, how much does it charge?

vicissitudes: Is it unusual for a freshman to get a triple in a suite? Have you heard of anyone who lived in one this past year? I mean...I don't want to be the only freshman there...

Unit 1 and extension are about 2 blocks away. The bus I'm talking about are the AC transit buses, and the perimeter buses. The former run around the city / bay area, and the latter just runs around the campus. Both are free with the "free" bus pass you'll be given. I say "free" because it's really included in your tuition fees, and if you lose the pass you have to buy another one (or be without a bus pass) until the next semester.

It's only unusual because there are a lot more spots in hallway style dorms than in suites. The suites themselves are still mostly freshmen, just like all the other dorms. The only dorms where freshmen might be a minority would be the mini-suites, and the unit 2 apartments.

Im a FPF Student and I never went to the FPF Calso.
How do I get my Cal Card?

^ u can go in your spare time.....?

There is a "make-up" CalSO during welcome week and I think you can get your Cal 1 Card there. If not, you can probably just show up at the Cal 1 Card office and ask for one.

vicissitudes,
Do you actually know what the layout of the suites are? My boyfriend got a suite and we can't seem to find information anywhere. At Calso, someone thought that the suite had a loft and a small kitchen, but I'm not sure if the person knew what they are talking about. I would really really really appreciate any information.
