Asking a college to match merit scholarship?

I am looking at two state universities- Mississippi State University and Oklahoma State University. MSstate has offered me 12,500 while OKstate has offered me 11,000 for merit scholarship. If I send an email or letter to OKstate do you think they would consider awarding more money to match the offer from MSstate?? I know I would have to word the letter in a mannerly fashion. any suggestions? Thanks!

You can ask…nothing ventured, nothing gained.

But keep in mind…the criteria for awarding those scholarships could be very different.

It irrelevant what the amount of the merit scholarship is. What is the NET COST to attend?

Are you in-state for either school?

it looks as if you are OOS for MS State with awards scholarship based on stats

scholarship at OK state

OK state will most likely not meet the scholarship at MS state because in order to get 12k/year you must have an ACT score of 30 (if you had an ACT of 30 at MS state, they would have given you a higher scholarship)

Cost of attendance OOS at MS state = $35,564 -12,500 = $ 23,064

Cost of attendance (OOS) at OK State = 36,500 -11,000 = 25,500

I am out of state for both schools

Can your family pay $25,000 a year for you to attend college?

Are there any public university options in your state of residence? Your instate costs might not be much different…depending on which state.
