Asking for more aid as a transfer

So I was just accepted as a transfer student and was given a measly loan of 6,000 meaning my cost of attendance is now calculated to be 62,700. That is insanity. I want to go to this school more than anything but I cant by any means afford to. How receptive in the financial aid office to people asking for more aid? I have been in communication with someone from the Geography department, which im transferring into, would they have grant money or something? Really looking for any way to make this possible so anything you have to offer would be appreciated!

If you were just accepted it’s possible that the Financial Aid office hasn’t completed your aid package yet. For me, my aid package came a little later. I would suggest getting in contact with the FinAid office and seeing if you should be expecting more aid. If they say no, then advise that without more help you won’t be able to attend. It’s totally OK to bug them!

Awesome, thats exactly what I did too, I just can’t actually believe they would give me NOTHING. But thanks for the advice, I will continue to do what I can!

After speaking with a FA advisor, I decided to appeal GWUs FA decision (not transfer). The advice from the advisor was that the appeals process might yield more FA but mostly $1,000 or $2,000 and never more than $5,000. I supplied extensive documentation; however, no change in the FA package was made. I wish you good luck in securing something other than $6,000 loan.
