asking for recs in senior year

Hey everyone,

When is the best time to ask a teacher for recommendations? Is it too late to ask a junior year teacher at this point in my senior year?

No.
Some teachers prefer that their students ask at the end of junior year, but this is only so they can work on them during the school year. It would have been best to speak with your teacher last year to see when they would want your information.

You should be fine asking your teacher during your senior year, in fact, I think that’s what most students do. Also you should have a close relationship with that teacher so he/she should have no problem writing your letter on shorter notice. If you are applying ED or EA, then it might be too late but that’s at the teachers discretion.

thanks for your advice, i appreciate it!

it’s just that most people at my school ask at the end of junior year, and the popular teacher’s spots fill up fast.

Popular teachers? Haha…

Remember, choose your teachers wisely. Don’t choose one just because you’ve heard they give great recommendations. Choose a teacher that knows you well and enjoyed having you in class.
