I have already thanked my two teachers multiple times for their recommendations, especially after I got into several colleges a few weeks ago (actually....I got into most of my top colleges). So, I'm actually really curious as to what they said about me (actually, it's only one teacher's recommendation that I really want to see).

Do you think it be really rude to ask to see it, and if not, when would you think is an appropriate time to ask? I am actually taking my third class with this teacher this semester, so I would still see him everyday until graduation. If it's ok to ask, should I then ask right before I graduate?

No, it’s not okay to ask. Sometimes teachers offer to share, but assuming you signed the confidentiality agreement, that recommendation is strictly confidential. That doesn’t preclude you from using your personal relationship with a teacher to ask him or her for a straight up assessment of your strengths and weaknesses as a student and what advice they would offer you as a result, since you are approaching college and want to get the most out of your education. Most teachers are happy to share their insights with a student whose motivation is to improve.

As an example, D is in college but she maintains an on-going relationship with one of her high school teachers whom she especially respects and often turns to him for advice. He has become more a personal friend than a teacher at this point.
