Big 4 accounting is less than what it's drummed up to be.... as an accounting major myself, i have found myself less aspiring to be a big 4 accountant because of the LOOONG hours, and the fact that when the auditors from PwC show up to the company I work for, all the managers (including the executive VP over my department) talk **** about them... and basically HATE it when they show up and ask the same questions over and over again, disrupting the VP's already full schedule.

Just a small reality check: maybe being a big 4 accountant is not the best/only route.

Accounting probably has the least respect out of undegrad business majors and the job prospects aren't that amazing. just my .02 cents.

"Accounting probably has the least respect out of undegrad business majors and the job prospects aren't that amazing. just my .02 cents."

.01 cent is more like it..what in the heck are you talking about? More people flunk out of accounting, by far, than any other business major due largely to it's difficulty. The decent programs "weed out" multitudes of those who just can't hack it. If that doesn't inspire some respect, I don't know what will.

Lack of respect in some cases is probably due to the insecurity that comes from flunking out. I know many a finance major, etc. who just couldn't hack accounting and are basically saying the same things you are. And by the way..job prospects are pretty damn good. I don't know what you're reading. Heard of the Sarbanes-Oxley act?

I have always heard job prospects are amazing for accounting. Like there will always be a job available. Big 4 as far as I can tell has a lot of respect when its on your resume. It just makes your resume look good when you have a big 4 on it. Big 4 accounting starts off around 50,000 but the money goes up pretty fast year to year.

prospects equap 50,000 new accountants needed per year for the next 10 years at the minimum.

Not to mention accouting is the basis to a whole gamut of business related tasks. Everything from startups, to construction firms to fortune companies need accountants. This is one of the most universal degrees that can land you anywhere from a home office, to the capitol and all the way into a fancy financial institutes office.
