I thought I might write an essay about the time someone physically attacked me (I'm trying to make it humorous; the incident was, after all, quite funny), but I'm not sure if that topic would be appropriate for a college essay. Do you think it'd be ok to write about something like that? Also, for my CommonApp essay, I was thinkng of writing about myself having the greatest influence on my life. Is that ok, or would it make me sound too vain, etc.? Thanks for any input!

anyone? .

I think it's fine, as long as it's not just "lololol, my gran took me down." Try to talk about what you learned from it, why they should accept you, things like that. My friend wrote a pretty funny essay about what she did to remedy the lack of "needless violence" in her life and got into UChicago ED, so I'm sure an attack is okay.

you wont believe it but i have an essay on the very same topic. how somebody beat me up and how it changed me

oh, ok...thanks guys!

any thoughts on my second question?

It all depends on the main points you make, how you influenced yourself (in a positive way?) What is positive to you may seem negative to someone else. It doesn't really matter WHAT topic you choose as long as you write it well. My essay has to do with religion and politics, and trust me that is not suicidal. We can't really answer your question until we read the essay.

"how somebody beat me up"

hahahaha
