I should also mention that I've had a few disciplinary issues - nothing like getting expelled - but enough to cause a little concern? I don't really know. One truancy thing soph year and three detentions (for lack of ID)

The schools that I'm applying to are:

Rutgers (lol, can I get a full ride?)
G-town (early action, decision w/e it's called)
Princeton
Harvard
Columbia
Yale
Cornell
UPenn <not wharton="">
MIT <i figured="" that="" my="" non-science="" background="" would="" be="" an="" advantage?="">
Brown</not>
<i figured="" that="" my="" non-science="" background="" would="" be="" an="" advantage?="">

...and yea, I realize that the list above is basically Rutgers + very top-tier schools, no match-y schools basically. Let me explain: I know I'm gonna get good, if not full, financial aid at Rutgers. And I personally like Rutgers (unlike most other New Jerseyans) and would have no problem going there, considering how I really like its diversity, affordability, and proximity to home. The only schools that I would ditch Rutgers for are the top-tier schools I also listed. So that's why that list is what it is.

I wanna know my overall chances at the schools and if possible, the chances I'll get into georgetown's SFS early decision or get a full ride at RU.

thanks.

I think you have a pretty solid shot at Rutgers, otherwise your ECs and stats are extremely strong

Gtown: almost a safety for you
Princeton, Harvard, Columbia, Yale: Reach, they are for pretty much everyone who has not cured cancer though
Cornell, Penn: Match/Low Reach

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1006553-senior-chance-ivies-ehhhh-grades.html</a></p>

chance me back?

Thanks for the reply. Obviously, I will get into Rutgers, but the full ride is my concern.

Should I really consider Gton, Penn and Cornell as expected admits?

if you go EA or ED to gtown/penn/cornell they should be around 70-75% IMO with a little taken out just because all competitive schools have that unpredictability factor

especially if you can write your passion that you seem to have about the tutoring service into your essays

I would not… Penn should be considered above average for pen meaning 30% or so… I didn’t like how you didn’t put hours on some of the community and more interesting service opportunities… Cornell I would say a low reach(NOT a match). Gtown is a low reach. Penn is a sure reach and I would say the rest(Excluding Rutgers) are full on far reaches(Meaning you are an average applicant).

I would like to say that I hope your personal essay is on the tutoring gig… I did mine on my tutoring volunteer work and I really liked how it portrayed my best qualities and I can look at it with pride that it is me instead of what they want to see in me(hopefully it matches up, but if it doesn’t I know that who i portrayed is 100% reflective on my personality).

I am actually not very good at keeping track of my hours, which is why I don’t have exact numbers. I like to think of this as a good thing because I’m not stringently recording every time I run to the library to help out a kid who has a huge test tomorrow, and it helps me keep in perspective that I’m not doing this to accumulate as many hours as possible. So the estimates I give are very rough - based on a how many hours a week do I generally spend time doing that particular volunteer thing. I always err on the side of caution and underestimate. The estimate for the March of Dimes volunteer hours is up there; it’s about 150, but the community coordinator who I usually work with signed off on 175 if you want the exact amount. I believe the middle school counselor who I coordinate the tutoring with is signing off on 200 hours.

bumpp. 10char.

Rutgers - in
Georgetown (it’s early action, by the way) - match

As for the rest of the schools, they’re all pretty much crap shoots for those applying (especially Harvard/Yale). I’d say you have a decent shot at Penn/Cornell, but the rest are reaches (as they are for nearly everyone that applies). Good luck, though!

Would you mind chancing me back?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1007028-chances.html</a></p>

Georgetown: Match
Princeton: Low Reach
Harvard: High Reach
Columbia: Reach
Yale: Reach
Cornell: Low Reach/High Match
UPenn: Reach/Low Reach
MIT: Reach
Brown: Low Reach
Rutgers: Match

I doubt a few detentions will matter much, unless it was specifically mentioned by your counselor or school as being a big issue. Overall you have extremely solid ECs and standardized test scores. However keep in mind that admission to the top schools can get really crazy sometimes. Just focus, write good essays, and you’ll be a very strong applicant to all schools.

Best of luck!
