Before freshman year, I took the geometry final exam to go to Alg II. Then before my sophomore year, I asked to take the pre-cal final exam and passed to go to AP Calc AB as a sophomore. Took a physics final to go to AP Physics Junior year (a year early)

Community Service
-Assistant computer technician at school-Community service (10, 11, 12)
-I tutored AP Calculus when he had mono to help him keep up with his work. went to his house the days he was out to give him help

Employment:
-I work at Polo Ralph Lauren as a sales associate
-tutoring for SATs. I tutor myself but I also arrange relationships between students looking for tutors and people I know who want to tutor.
-I get hired as a violinist to play at festivals, concerts sometimes, occasionally at a restaurant, and also as a substitute in case someone falls ill
-I have a quartet, we play at weddings.

Others:
-Counselor rec-Will be good, she thinks I'm a driven, charismatic genius lol (none of that is probably true). Will go over how I asked to self study geometry/pre-cal so I could accelerate my math education, pursued independent studies, but at the same time participated in a wide variety of activities, excelled in them, and became a leader.

-Physics teacher rec-again, she is here to confirm that I am extremely intelligent but also that I am always there to help other kids and that unlike the other "genius" level kids she has taught, I am considerably more personable and have a very different relationship among my peers.

-APUSH teacher-will be good, he respected my work ethic, appreciated my intellectual contributions. I am deeply interested in politics and analysis of historical decisions in terms of policy and he always like listening to my opinions and thoughts about various events in history and current debates and issues.

Awards:
Not much here...some plain stuff like AP Scholar with Disctinction, National Commended Scholar, etc. Only thing that is worth anything is that I qualified for AIME (I did not do that great though lol) and even that isn't worth too much.

Essays:
-Well my Commonapp one was probably the best writing I ever did in terms of quality. Hopefully it came across as reflective enough, I discussed being a jack of all trades and how that allowed me to connect with a lot of other people.

Interviews:
-I've only had them with Yale, an on campus, and an alumni one. Both were fantastic. My on campus interview was with a girl who did many of the exact same things as I did and we really hit it off. My alumni one was even better, it was 2 hours of virtually non stop conversation about a variety of topics, and he told me he would write great things about me and that he thought I was very amiable, friendly, and charismatic as well.

Thanks!

Yale (I’m doing SCEA, I am legacy as well)- reach, but I think the legacy might give you a needed boost

Brown-low reach
Stanford- reach (Being from the East Coast is very difficult)
Harvard-reach
Duke-high match
Princeton-reach
Dartmouth-low reach
UPenn-low reach
Columbia-low reach (Considered a music supplement?)
MIT-mid-reach

Boston College-Safety
Middlebury College-match
Tufts-match

BU-Extreme Safety with merit
UConn (In state)-Ditto above

In all honesty, you have quite an impressive resume listed here. Keep in mind, though, being Asian from Connecticut puts you in a difficult position, as your application will be compared with those of many other talented kids like yourself from the Northeast. Best of luck to you.

You honestly have a very good chance of getting into yale but remember that being from Connecticut does hurt you slightly. I am also from Conn. and last year a kid from my school graduated with a 3.98 and a 2400 SAT and he was regected SCEA so I really don’t think that you stats will automatically get you in.
Legacy should help though so good luck

I think you definitely have a great shot at Yale. Being a legacy helps immensely and your course load, AP classes, GPA, SAT scores, and ECs are pretty much on target. I would say that Duke is definitely a match for you as well as MIT. I also think you could get into UPenn, Dartmouth, or Columbia, though they may be slight reaches. The rest I would say are reaches, but I actually don’t think Yale is much of a reach. You definitely have a good shot. And you seem REALLY smart, so even if you don’t get into Yale (which it seems like you WILL get in), you will end up at a GREAT school.

Mind chancing me? I’d appreciate it :)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/802006-what-my-chances-getting-into-unc.html</a></p>

I think you have a fairly good shot at Yale and some of the other Ivies. The top ones, like HPSM will be tough. You definitely will get into your targets and safeties though.

You should consider Cornell, they value ECs a lot and yours are definitely very good.

You have a good shot at Yale. Your app is above average, but as others have said, you’re asian and from Connecticut. Good luck!

…also, legacy isn’t what it used to be. In some cases, it can hurt your application. But you never know. Yale is a lottery :)

At this point in time Yale and the other ivies don’t have many Asian legacies as they did not have many Asian undergrads in the 70s and 80s. That will help you a great deal. Good shot.

That’s quite interesting hmom5; maybe being asian won’t be much of a detriment after all.

i think you have a very good chance for Yale especially because you are legacy and your SAT scores are really good. I think youll probably get into your targets and safeties. as for the reaches… it just kind of depends what each of them is looking for but i think youll get into a few of them if not most of them

I think your chances at Yale are great! In fact, they really couldn’t be any better. Of the schools listed, though, Duke is the only one I would say that you are almost sure to get into. The rest of them are low reaches.

Best of Luck,
Robbie

My favorites are yale, brown, and BC. What do you guys think my odds at Brown are? I guess I have a fairly certain shot at BC.

low reaches to matches at all your schools with the lowest chance at Dartmouth and highest at Duke.

Chance me back?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/805309-chance-me-ucs-please.html</a></p>

@ Demitasse I’m not considering Cornell because its too cold there lol. I guess Middlebury is a bit too though.

Obviously in at your mid-college like BC, and I think you have a nice chance at Yale and for the rest. You have a wide range of activities without looking too amped up and overachieving that show dedication. Seriously, you should have no problem for any of your top choices, save for the usual it’s a crap shoot, but expect some Ivy to come knockin. And it’s so cool to work at Ralph Lauren, that would be my dream job!

^^^^ Haha it sounds cooler than it actually is…the employee discount is only 30% so the only good deals are when you find some stuff in clearance. But good deals they are when you find the right size and colors, like cashmere sweaters for under 70 bucks. It is always a tough search though. Otherwise its really not all that awesome…you cashier or fold clothes.

Does anyone think I could apply to a school like U of Rochester or Wake Forest and get merit aid? Those are some other schools I’m considering.

Yes I think you could get merit aid at University of Rochester but I don’t know how much. D stats were lower than yours and she got $10,000 per year.

That’s a bold senior schedule!

Very solid chances.
