ASU, Clemson, U of AZ

I am deciding between these schools right now for computer science. Clemson is the cheapest and I got into their honors. I also got into honors at the other 2 but hear that their programs are nothing special. What would be a good school for obtaining a Bachelors? I don't plan to live in either Arizona or SC after school.

anyone? i got one week to decide!

My browser crashed so now you got a nicer version.

First, IMO, CS departments @ ASU and UA are stronger. ASU seems like a good program. I like how UA CS undergraduates deeply involves in departmental research (some of which are pretty good). But UA CS department is really small (15 professors supporting ~500 students) and is the only program that is not ABET accredited (which makes me wonder why?)

So, do you have any other choice? :) Seriously, why CS and do you have other interest? E.g. if you intend to pursue a minor in MIS or Entrepreneurship, then UA (Eller) is probably the place to be.

You got me, I don't have any logical recommendation.

Have you visited Clemson or the other schools? DS is at Clemson but is in Comp Eng so I can't say much about Comp Sci. He does love Clemson though.
Not a lot of info on the Comp Sci web site. I do think they do a lot with Graphics/Virtual Reality stuff.
Each school likely has a focus, see if you can determine that & go with the focus that best matches your interests

re: Clemson CS. You may want to consider this piece of info that outlines their plan to seriously upgrade the CS program. http://www.cs.clemson.edu/School/initialplan.pdf

Under most circumstances, this is a plus for Clemson. But, IMO, ASU CS and, to some degree, UA CS, are already at that level today. Something to chew on.

I think if you are really into CS, go with ASU. With the honors program, you will make the most of all the available resources and opportunities there to be a successful candidate for either grad school or employer. If you find yourself unchallenged there, transfer to a more rigorous program. If you are more into business/CS/IT, then definitely choose UA as Eller has one of the best MIS programs around. Finally, go with Clemson is money is an absolute issue or you plan to venture into something else, e.g. Computer Engineering.

Clemson's currently has a really good Digital Production Arts program, if that's your interest, Clemson is a good choice.
Just read most of the pdf that dallas808 posted. Looks like Clemson has a plan to be a better CS program in the future which is good, but it might not be a fit right now. Thanks for posting that dallas.

I realize that Clemson probably doesn't have the best program but I am leaning towards it for a couple reasons. It's not nearly as large as the Arizona schools and it's cheaper. I am very interested in graphics and networking. All the schools have classes that appeal to me and I know I can't take them all no matter where I go.

Well I decided against U of AZ since i'm not hearing good things about Tucson. It also seems that CS class sizes might be too large for my tastes. I'm still thinking about ASU and Clemson. But I am hearing that ASU is a huge party school and people are rich/arrogant and not really the brightest. Like most of them are there to party. Clemson is maybe too rural for my liking but is conservative and has a friendly student body from what I hear.

OP, just want to note my opinion is largely based on the academic programs ... I am glad you are considering other factors. Sound like you should visit the honors programs in both ASU and Clemson before making your decision. "Heard" and "See in person" are two different things. ;)
