Hello,
I’ve been accepted into both the WP Carey School of Business for Business Law at ASU and the University of Miami’s Herbert Business School for Legal Studies in Business and I want to know what the pros and cons are about both schools in academics and social life.
Does anyone have any advice about which I should choose
Were you admitted to ASU Barrett?
Can you afford both without loans?
Arizona had been making deep cuts into its budget, even before the pandemic. Barrett is preserved, to a certain extent, but had to raise their fees. The regular classes have suffered, which is okay from the legislature’s or the university’s point of view because ASU wants to offer access to lots and lots of students, then, it’s up to them to make it work. Asu’s got good support services and a good freshman retention rate.
Umiami is private, so it’s not as subject to public cuts. Class sizes will be more conducive to learning, better amenities, etc. Freshman retention and overall graduation rates are better.
However, why business law/legal studies?
And are both a similar cost?
(PS: I suppose you know both are known as major party schools, ie., lots of drinking/drugs.)
both schools are very god awful and if youre not going to on full ride not worth it imo just gap year and reapply
my parents work pays a percentage of schooling and i’ve been told that costs would be an issue. i’m doing business law because i really want to go to law school and then do corporate law or contract work. and i’m not in barrets because i heard that its a waste of money.
i think asu is about $40-60 k and umiami would be about $70-80k per year including meal plans and other costs.
the only problem i have with miami is that i got in for spring admission and it is known as a rich people school (technically I am upper middle class and go to an elite boarding school so I’d be okay but still)
Horrible answer, and not even close to being true.

What state do you live in and what are your other choices?
Miami is not worth $280-$320K for undergraduate.
If you really want to go to law school, save up for that.
BTW, Barrett is definitely worth the extra $2K/year.
Whoever told you that about Barretts was misinformed. It makes all the difference at ASU, even though it’s expensive.
Not sure Business Law is the best preparation for law school, typically reading/writing heavy majors are recommended (Political science, History, English, Philosophy…) so add one of those as a minor. Team work is important for business, but law will want you to be able to read, synthesize, analyze long and complex documents, and the skill is a long one to master at the level they want.
(A crowing number of law applicants now have a STEM background, too).
