ASU vs. UofA

I know there have been numerous threads on this topic, but I still can't decide, so hopefully someone will bring new insight to this comparison.

My college list is pretty much done, but I want to add one of the Arizona schools as a super safety. I already have WSU as one of my super safeties, but I want another one in a warmer climate and in a larger city.

I like ASU's location better. Also their business program seems stronger than UofA's. And lastly their football team is better.

But I like UofA's campus better. They are the better overall school and the weather is slightly cooler. And even though ASU's football team is better, more people show up to UofA games. And UofA also has good basketball.

I think I like UofA better, but I heard Tucson really sucks...so maybe I would prefer ASU.

I just don't know....any ideas/comments?

Even though I'm going to ASU, I'd have to admit that both business schools are pretty much equal, UofA may even have an advantage, mostly with their advising, which is nice. ASU has some good individual departments.

Seriously, though, they are pretty much the exact same, in different locations. They are both very social, with big sports, and decent adacemics. Most programs offered in both schools are ranked only a few away from eachother, which is not a huge difference at all.

Tempe is a great college city.

The UofA campus has a lot to offer. Even though Tuscon isn't the most amazing city, you probably won't even notice.

Both are good schools. People will like one more than the other. It's your choice.

That's why I can't decide between the two...they are pretty much exactly the same.

I know I really can't go wrong with these two, but I still need to pick one. So does anyone want to share their opinion?

Saying Tucson sucks is a huge load of BS. The campus and the area around the campus is as vibrant of a collegetown as you could ever want. It's certainly not the LA/NYC type city (that's why we apply to NYU or UCLA rather than the arizona schools), but having been to Tucson several times, I will vouch for the fact that it's a fun town and the college is in the middle of it all (literally and figuratively).

Personally, I'd go for UofA, but that's mostly because i've never been to ASU and don't know a whole lot about it.

UofA has the better reputation, and typically attracts stonger students, academically.

Thanks for the help.

If Tucson isn't as bad as people say then I will definitely apply to UofA.

So if anyone would like to comment about Tucson, I would greatly appreciate it.

Also does UofA's business school have any certain requirements.

I know ASU to get into the b-school you need to qualify for as a direct admit, or have a 3.5 gpa and transfer in as a junior.

i dont think it is a 3.5

I always liked Tempe more than Tuscon, but I wouldn't say Tuscon sucks. U of A has the better overall reputation, but I would choose the school that you personally like better. Have you visited them?

I'd go ASU over UA...

just a heads up..WSU is becoming a bit more selective..especially for out of state kids

I live in Phoenix. Personally, I prefer UA because the college town is more fun than Tempe in my opinion. But it might just be that Tempe is too close to home. UA is a stronger school though, without a doubt. Not a whole lot stronger, but stronger nonetheless.

Thanks for the help.

Right now I plan on applying to U of A, but I'm really indecisive so we'll see how long my decision lasts.

And SHS_Spartan...why do you say WSU is becoming more competitive for OOS kids? The school's acceptance rate, average GPA, and average SAT scores don't really scream competitive.

Even if Tuscon doesn't end up being great, the campus is like a world of it's own. There's tons of stuff going on there.

Lived in Tucson for 4 years. Absolutely LOVED it. Will be going back this fall to visit. Mt. Lemon, Sabino Canyon, the foothills, the parties, ah, the parties. Did I mention the parties!? ASU is nice too, actually took my D there for an un official visit (she was born in Tucson) and we live and are from Ohio, but Tucson and the U of A have left an indelible impression on me. It will on you too!

BEAR DOWN!!! and choose U of A.

I live in Washington State and I've visited and listened to every adcom from WSU and I know they don't 'scream' competitive, but if you want to stand a solid shot coming from a state other than WA or ID...you have to have great stats.

And you shouldn't choose a school based on their football team...that's just stupid.

I'm not choosing a school based on their football team, but I will admit that sports and school spirit are huge part of my decision.

considering the schools mentioned in his posts, he can't really be going for their football teams. They have all been voted at the bottom for the pac10

"i dont think it is a 3.5"

Actually, the suggested GPA to get into the business school at ASU after sophomore year is about a 3.4 Any lower without some extra EC's, and you're sweating it.

that seems somewhat unreasonable considering cc transfer students from CA are getting in with 3.0-3.2 GPA's. I am going by the listed minimum on the undergrad admissions checklist.

^^ The GPA I listed is for current ASU students applying for the business college, not transfer students or general ASU admissions.
