At UCB, wanting to go to Vassar College

So, I am a freshman at UCB. When I did the college application process, I really wanted to go to a LAC, but I found myself wait listed at all that I had applied to. But Vassar was the only college whose wait list I decided to stay on. I sent in a portfolio and waited two long months only to find out that they were releasing the wait list because the spots were full.

My GPA in high was good, I was in the top 20 at my school. My SATs and ACTs weren't great, but I had a lot of extracurriculars and I was taking as may rigorous courses as possible. I was in orchestra for two years, I was a Varsity cross country runner and I was in track for two years. I did theater for one year, and I had a lead role. I was in Art club and I helped art club win 300 dollars in the district. I was a member of film club and book club. I did community service at a retirement home and around campus. My letters of rec were good as well. I did have two C's on my transcript and they were for AP Chemistry, but my intended major is English so I'm hoping they see that I did my best to go outside my comfort zone even though I didn't necessarily ace the class.

I know Berkeley is a great school, but the East coast is my dream. I am a high financial need student, and i am a permanent resident, not a citizen of the United States. I just don't know whether to try and transfer or to just settle for where I am at now.

Do well your first semester and apply. What else is there to say? Sometimes there are few transfer spots. hard to say from year to year.

full disclosure Loved Vassar!! Good luck!

This might make it difficult to transfer, especially if you’re getting in-state tuition at UCB. I would say to apply and see what you can get in financial aid, but remember that it’s usually less for transfers than it is for freshmen.

Good luck!!
