I know that there are mostly high school juniors/seniors on this board... but I was wondering if there are any other possible transfers out there! I got accepted for the fall, but my financial aid package was, well, pretty bad... I'm hoping to go, though. anyone else here?

Congratulations! Vassar is known for being extra-competitive for transfers.

thanks :) i was definitely really nervous, especially since it was the only school i applied to (very risky, i know!)

Hi! I was also admitted as a transfer to Vassar. But, as you said, Vassar's financial aid package was not what I expected... I already accepted the offer, though.

Hey, i'm going too!!! :D I actually met with financial aid, and the package was adjusted a bit (I think some of our numbers were off... we over-estimated or something). It's still not going to be easy, and I'm going to have to pay a lot, but I think it will be worth it. I'm really excited!!! Are you going to be a sophomore or a junior?

Hi! Yeah, I'm excited too...can't wait to prepare my schedule! I'm going to be a sophomore. From which school are you transferring?? I'm transferring from the University of Puerto Rico.

Hey, do you know by any chance when we're supposed to declare a major? Because I went to the site <congrats2010.vassar.edu> and, apparently, students have to declare a major in the beginning of their sophomore year (if they choose to study abroad).</congrats2010.vassar.edu>

Hey, I'm going to be a sophomore too!! :) I'm coming from Brandeis University.

I have absolutely NO idea about declaring a major... I have a close friend at Vassar, and I thought that she said we had until the end of sophomore year, but I'm really not sure (especially since she, like me, is not really thinking about studying abroad... so I don't know how that would affect things). Are you planning on studying abroad?? Even if you are, I HIGHLY doubt that they will make you decide before you actually start attending Vassar, that just doesn't seem reasonable!!

I am sooo excited! I'll probably feel like a freshman all over again, but i don't care :D yay vassar!

anybody know when we find out about housing? do we have any say, or are we just placed somewhere???

Hi! Yeah, I'm planning to study abroad in Paris. I am double majoring in Philosophy and French (or in Political Science and French, I'm not sure)..so it would be a great opportunity to get immersed in French culture.

About housing..I am really not sure. I think we will be placed somewhere, according with our preferences and what we answered in the forms, which was not very specific. I'd like to be placed in Jewett House...! I think that they'll tell us around July...

studying abroad in paris would be amazing, i'm sure!! :)

i actually just received the housing forms (and all those other forms) in the mail today... i probably got it later since i sent in my reply card late (i got an extension so i could meet w/financial aid)... so now i see what you mean! i guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens! i don't really have any preference as to which i'd like to be placed in, except i would prefer not to be in Strong.

i'm getting so excited! seeing those forms made it all feel more "real" i guess :)

Yeah...I'm very excited too! Can't wait to be there! I haven't seen the campus yet, but I've seen the photos and they convinced me! Did you visit?

I wonder...how many transfers were accepted this year?

I've visited twice... it's absolutely BEAUTIFUL :) Even in February! (I went last February and this past May.) The pictures don't lie!!!

I have no idea how many transfers were accepted! Generally, i know they don't accept too many... so i have no idea! I do have a friend who knows someone who's transferring there... so that's three of us, at least! I'm sure there's more, i'm not sure how many though.

What made you choose vassar, since you've never visited?

Well, originally I was between The U of Chicago and Vassar College. However, I reviewed Vassar's catalogue and I was impressed by the political science and philosophy majors. Also, I can get more individual attention at Vassar because it is a smaller school.

i really love the size of vassar! for me it's perfect - bigger than my high school, but smaller than my former school :) and the campus is absolutely gorgeous!!

I'm applying to Vassar for spring admission. Can any accepted transfers post their stats so I can assess my chances?

good luck!!!!

here's some of my info...

SATS (highest combined score, old SATS): 1600
high school rank: 1 out of 470-ish
APs: World History (5), American History (5), Psychology (5), Chemistry (5), English Literature (5), Calculus BC (5), Spanish Language (4)
college freshman year gpa: 4.0

in terms of high school ECs, a good amount, a variety - lots of writing-related stuff, tutoring, and working w/kids (if you want more details, PM me :) ). i didn't do that many college ECs - just tutoring and cheerleading second semester. first semester i did absolutely nothing in terms of ECs.

i wish you the best of luck! :)

my god, what beautiful stats you have.

eserrur - where are you trying to transfer from?? are you gonna be a sophomore in the fall? i wish you oodles of good luck!!! :D

I'm coming from Hunter College of the City University of New York. My college GPA is 3.958. I only took the SAT once 1320 (old sat). Although some may think it odd to take it this late in the game, I might retake it; I scored a 1440 on a practice SAT I just took, and Im sure with a little bit of practice I could hit a 1500. My highschool transcript is garbage, except for my math classes (when I put effort). No AP's- nothin. Right now I'm a member of the Philosophy Club and member of my college's Senate. I'll probably have a couple really good recommendations. As of right now I'm taking summer courses at Columbia (as a matter of fact, my final is in exactly an hour!). Lately though I've been becoming more and more attracted to UChicago, but I'll still apply to Vassar. And yes, I will be entering as a sophomore in the fall. Thanks !!

you're welcome, and good luck!

hope your final went well too :)
