If my application is ready by this weekend, including essays, but I don’t have my ACT+Writing, should I wait until I get those results back or go ahead and click submit? I am currently self-reporting a 32 w/o writing and I have listed Columbia as one of my score recipients for the September test.
Most importantly, I’m not sure of whether or not Columbia does ED on a rolling basis, or if they just draw from the stack on 1 Nov.
They don’t do admissions on a rolling basis. There’s no advantage to submitting early. Self-reporting a score is not sufficient. ACT without writing is insufficient too. Are you signed up for the ACT plus writing? You have until the November test date to get a ACT plus writing score in time for ED at Columbia.
You should absolutely, completely wait until Nov. 1 to submit your application. Take every academic / extracurricular opportunity you can. You might stumble upon something really big, and if you submit early, you’ll curse yourself for not having that to put on your app. There’s no advantage to submitting early.
I’d wait. Don’t wait for the last day (Common App can go down under heavy traffic!), but wait until a week before. Let your app rest for a couple weeks now, then print and review carefully with fresh eyes. My kids’ essays got tweaked over the course of the application season, and were better for it. Don’t rush. And maybe something will come up to add.
If something worthy of adding happens after you submit, just email admissions and ask them to add it to your application. They will do that.
